2.The history behind 'Real Housewives'

The first episode of a ‘Real Housewives’ show premiered on March 21, 2006. The show focused on married women in Orange County, as the Bravo network wanted to feature the rich and wealthy living behind the gates in Coto de Casa. After the first season was over, producers realized that the drama, fighting and personal stories made the show successful.

Within a few years, the Bravo network added more cities to the ‘Real Housewives’ franchise, including New York and Atlanta in 2008, New Jersey in 2009, Washington, D.C. and Beverly Hills 2010, Miami in 2011, and Potomac and Dallas in 2016. These two cities may not be the last to be added, as Andy Cohen has teased that Nashville and New Orleans may be considered. Miami and D.C. have since been canceled. The longest standing housewife is Vicki Gunvalson, as she was one of the original housewives of Orange County. She has shared her life with fans for 11 years.

3.International shows

The success of the ‘Real Housewives’ franchise in the United States has inspired other countries around the world to create their versions of the American success. The first one was ‘The Real Housewives of Athens,’ which premiered in 2011. In Canada, Vancouver premiered in 2012 and Toronto in 2017. Australia also added Melbourne in 2014, Auckland in 2016 and Sydney that same year. Cheshire was added in 2015 and has boosted its production, creating several seasons per year.

4.Spin-off shows

Throughout the ‘Real Housewives’ franchise, fans meet some housewives and just fall in love. Bravo has launched several spin-offs to follow these reality stars on ventures, such as business, weddings and family life. Some of the more famous spin-off shows include ‘Bethenny Ever After,’ ‘Don’t Be Tardy,’ ‘Vanderpump Rules,’ ‘Manzo’d with Children,’ and ‘Teresa Checks In.’
