Fans expected Evil Morty to return in the season 3 finale of “Rick and Morty,” but he did not even make a cameo appearance. However, according to a popular theory, the character will make his grand comeback in season 4, where he will no doubt play as the main nemesis of the season.

Evil Morty past appearances

Evil Morty first appeared in season 1 in the episode "Close Rick-Counters of the Rick Kind,” as the person behind Evil Rick. He controlled Evil Rick and used him to kill the other known Ricks and Mortys from different dimensions. He remotely controlled Evil Rick using a transmitter that he hid behind his eye patch.

At the end of the episode, Evil Morty took off his eye patch, which turned out to be the transmitter and he stomped on it. He joined the other Rickless Mortys rounded up by the Council of Ricks to blend in with them, after the Ricks discovered a receiver on Evil Rick's head and realized that he was controlled.

The character then returned in season 3 in the episode titled “The Ricklantis Mixup.” Apparently, he survived the attack on the Citadel of Ricks in the premiere, “The Rickshank Rickdemption.” The villain then developed an alter ego and returned as a presidential candidate for the newly democratic Citadel of Ricks. At first, the Ricks of the Citadel made fun at his candidacy because he is a Morty.

However, he won following his speech about the divide between the Ricks and Mortys in the Citadel.

Evil Morty returns in Season 4 of 'Rick and Morty'

Fans believe that Evil Morty will return in Season 4 of “Rick and Morty.” His last appearance in season 3 is said to be a build up to his comeback as the season’s main antagonist.

Viewers saw how his true colors came out when he became president of the Citadel of Ricks. What the people thought was an understanding, calm and compassionate leader is actually a cold, ruthless, cunning, manipulative and intelligent dictator who felt no remorse when he killed those who opposed his ideals.

Evil Morty’s motive

It is unknown what motivates Evil Morty to kill his doppelgangers or the other Ricks. According to Screenrant, it is likely that he has a hatred for them because of what happened to him in the past. Evil Morty is believed to be the original Morty, whom the mad scientist abandoned in the monster-infested world as seen in the show’s intro scene. He wants to get revenge. All the while, Rick has been going on adventures with a different version of his grandson.
