Season 3 of “Rick and Morty” ended not too long ago, and now fans are clamoring to see more adventures from the grandfather and grandson duo. The sad news is, the animated series will not be back for new episodes in a really long time. Season 4 does not air until probably two years from now. However, fans believe that Adult Swim has a gift in store for them this Christmas to tied them over the long wait.
Christmas special
The season 3 finale of “Rick and Morty” supposedly hinted at the release of a Christmas episode. The finale ended with an end-credits scene that as usual, featured Mr.
Poopybutthole. In it, he bid viewers farewell and mentioned the return of the series in “like a really long time.” He added that by the time Season 4 rolls in, he “might even have a big white Santa Claus beard” already.
Now, according to fans, Mr. Poopybutthole may have hinted at a Christmas special when he brought up Santa Claus. It is supposedly likely that season 3 is not over yet since another episode could come in December. It may come as a surprise, just like what showrunner Dan Harmon did to the pilot episode of season 3. Viewers may remember that he released the premiere titled “The Rickshank Rickdemption” on April 1, much to the surprise of everyone. The second episode aired three months later on July 30.
Moreover, the International Business Times pointed out that Evil Morty was supposed to appear in the season 3 finale. However, the eye-patched character did not even make a cameo in episode 10, so it could be likely that he would appear in the rumored Christmas special of “Rick and Morty.”
Season 4 release date
On the other hand, Mr.
Poopybutthole may have hinted at the release of season 4 in December 2018. This would fit in neatly with the show’s timeline, where there is the usual gap between 14 and 18 months before the release of a new season. The first season ended on April 2014 and season two followed in July 2015. The finale for the sophomore season aired on Oct.
4, 2015, and the third premiered on April 1, 2017.
Season 4 episodes
Harmon said that he wants to do 14 episodes for “Rick and Morty” season 4. This was initially the number of episodes for season 3, but it eventually went down to 10 because of the delay in the release. This time though, the writers already have their stories prepared for the installment, which they made during the making of the third season. One of the stories will see the title characters get trap inside the journal that Jerry made.
