"American Horror Story" (AHS) is an anthology horror drama series that is one of the most popular on the FX network. Now in its seventh season, "American Horror Story" has created a huge following and fan base. The new season kicks off on Tuesday, September 5 at 10 p.m. ET.

Cult

The name of the latest season of "AHS" is "American Horror Story: Cult." The creators of the show, Ryan Murphy, and Brad Falchuck, said it will revolve around the 2016 presidential election and will have a connection to "Freak Show." "American Horror Story: Freak Show" was the fourth season of "AHS" and earned a whopping 20 Emmy Award nominations.

The cast members for this season of "AHS" include Evan Peters as Kai Anderson, Sarah Paulson as Ally Mayfair-Richards, Alison Pill as Ivy Mayfair-Richards, and Cheyenne Jackson as Dr. VIncent. Lena Dunham from the "Girls" franchise will also be making an appearance in some of the episodes this season.

The first episode of the 11-episode season begins in Michigan on election night, hence the episode name "Election Night." Episode one will introduce five of the main characters of the season, including Evan Peters' character, Sarah Paulson's character, and Alison Pill's character.

Past success

"American Horror Story" has had quite a bit of success through the years. The first season of "AHS" began back in October of 2011 with Murder House.

The season starred Dylan McDermott and Connie Britton, neither of who are still with the series. Some of the cast members from the first season who continued with the show are Evan Peters, Jessica Lange, and Denis O'Hare.

Since the start of it all in 2011, the show has been nominated for a number of awards. "AHS" has received seventy-eight Emmy Award nominations with fifteen wins.

It has also received nine Golden Globe Award nominations with two wins, and three People's Choice Award noms with one win. More nominations will likely come after this upcoming season comes to an end.

Fans of the show are beyond excited for the start of "Cult." Social media sites are blowing up with opinions and ideas on the season.

People are already making connections to previous seasons and discussing what they think will happen during the seventh season of "AHS."
