According to a new report from E! Online, "Grey's Anatomy" fans have good reason to get even more excited. Apparently, ABC has ordered more episodes of the current season. It's unclear how many episodes were originally ordered, but the current report is that the show's episode count for this season has been bumped up to a total of 24.
Additional episodes
So, whatever it was before that must have been less than 24.
We guess it might have been around 22 episodes or something to that nature. The E! Online article just says that ABC ordered additional episodes. Whatever the case, fans can now look forward to seeing extra episodes of "Grey's Anatomy" this season.
Dr. Nathan Riggs is out
In related news, the show recently got rid of a major character. It is Dr. Nathan Riggs played by New Zealand actor Martin Henderson. In an interview with Deadline.com, Martin revealed that he was always expecting this year to be his final year. He explained that he signed a short-term contract with the show.
He also revealed that's why they brought the character Megan Hunt onto the show.
It was a twist that was set up to give them a good reason for the Nathan character to make his exit.
A possible return
Deadline did ask Martin if he ever thought there might be a possibility of Nathan returning to the storyline. He told them he would certainly never close the door to it. He thinks that Nathan's storyline was left open-ended enough to merit a return at some point in the future.
Some brighter news recently came out for the show. They're actually bringing on a new female character. In fact, The Hollywood Reporter said the show filled this role right after they got rid of Martin Henderson. This new female character will be played former One Tree Hill actress Bethany Joy Lenz.
New Jenny character
Her character's name is Jenny. Unfortunately, any further details about Jenny are being tightly kept under wraps. So, no further details are available about her at the moment. Hopefully, some new details will turn up in the not-too-distant future.
They did reveal that Jenny will be a guest character. So, it sounds like she'll do a short arc for the show before exiting. This is the second show that Bethany has worked on for producer Shonda Rhimes. The other show she worked on was for ABC's "The Catch." However, she wasn't there for long. Her role actually got recast after the pilot because they decided to take the storyline in a different direction.
"The Catch" ended up getting canceled after its second season.
Bethany has also appeared on other shows like ABC's "Agents of SHIELD," Showtime's "Dexter" and "The Guiding Light." She's repped by APA and Atlas Artists. Grey's Anatomy airs every Thursday night at 7 pm central standard time on ABC.
