The premiere of "The Walking Dead" Season 8 is finally here and it looks like the major war against Negan and the Saviors is definitely happening. There is little doubt that Rick Grimes will lead the residents of Alexandria in the battle. But who will rally the people of Hilltop if Gregory doesn't seem to have the courage to stand up to Negan? It is possible that Maggie will finally take over as the new leader of the community this season.
Fans have been hoping that Hilltop's residents would immediately turn to Maggie as their leader in the seventh season.
After the death of Glenn Rhee and Abraham Ford, Maggie and Sasha both fled to Hilltop, where they were accepted. Unfortunately, Gregory wasn't very happy about having the women in his community. Did he anticipate that Maggie would steal leadership from him in Season 8?
Maggie ready to lead Hilltop
Viewers are certainly eager to see Maggie become the person responsible for the Hilltop people. Luckily, Lauren Cohan hints at the possibility in a new interview with Entertainment Weekly.
"I think that Maggie feels very clear on safeguarding Hilltop and everything else that she can," the "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" actress stated. Lauren Cohan added that her character "knows that the Hilltop looks to her and respects her and follows her." Not surprisingly, the residents' admiration for Maggie "snowballs into being in that place of leadership." But where would that leave Gregory in the eighth season of "TWD?"
Will Gregory attempt to kill Maggie?
It is almost certain that Gregory will not give up the leadership of Hilltop all too easily.
There are speculations that he will try to have Maggie killed for allegedly endangering his people as well as himself. However, it is possible that Jesus will keep Maggie safe so they can join Rick in the epic war.
With Maggie heading the Hilltop people and Ezekiel leading the Kingdom, Rick Grimes is set to claim victory over Negan in "The Walking Dead" Season 8.
However, they are not the only communities who will finally stand up to the Saviors later this month. Fans believe there are more groups that will be introduced as the Alexandrians' new allies.
Can Maggie lead Hilltop to victory over the Saviors without Gregory causing too much trouble? Will Rick Grimes find more survivors to join the fight against Negan? The eighth season of "TWD" is scheduled to premiere on AMC on October 22.
