Nikki Bella had chosen to share a scary experience she encountered in 2016 for the "Most Memorable Year" episode of "Dancing With The Stars" on Monday. In the pre-taped package, the WWE pro recalled the turning point that made her realize the importance of life.

It was revealed early last year that Nikki Bella was suffering from neck injury and had to undergo a surgery to fix the disc behind her vertebrae. The professional wrestler had to go on hiatus for several months to make a full recovery until she returned to the ring in April.

Bella steps out from WWE ring due to neck injury

A few days later, Nikki Bella confirmed the need for her to take a break from the WWE stage to focus on her health. She, however, reassured the fans that she will be back if things go well during the healing period. But before she delivered the unfortunate news, the actress-model got engaged to her co-wrestler and longtime partner, John Cena, who personally chose to propose inside the ring.

"I knew when I walked down that ramp at WrestleMania, that could be my last," she said. "Having that match, I knew that could be my last. It's kind of ironic because here maybe one door was closing and then I get proposed to and another door's opening."

Aside from the engagement, Nikki Bella also scored a gig with ABC for the new season of "Dancing with the Stars" that premiered a few weeks ago.

For the latest episode of the dance program, the professional wrestler recalled the moment she found out about her neck injury and the possibilities it may have caused her health and career.

Road to recovery

Speaking with ET Online on Tuesday, the "Dancing with the Stars" contestant further explained the scary experience that made her appreciate the value of life.

"I think any time you hear that you're about to paralyze yourself, or even worse, it's just scary," she said. "I felt like, in that moment, I was taking it for granted."

Nikki Bella admitted that she has taken her health for granted while enjoying her popularity in the field of wrestling. But despite having to face an alarming experience, the female wrestler knew she had to be strong during those difficult times.

Fortunately, the "Dancing with the Stars" contestant has a supportive fiance beside her to keep her motivated and positive. "He just gave me such an inner strength that [made be believe] I can overcome this," she said of John Cena.

The 33-year-old wrestler and actress added the outpouring of support from her friends and loved ones has played a crucial role in her recovery.
