The latest episode of “Game of Thrones” – “The Spoils of War” is the fourth episode of Season 7, which means that we are already halfway through the season. The episode was full of amazing scenes and moments. It was also full of parallels from previous dialogues in the show and here are some.
It weighs you down
At the beginning of the episode, Jaime gave Bronn some advice saying, “the more you own, the more it weighs you down.” So far in Season 7, Jaime has been wearing the Lannister colors red and gold unlike his sister Cersei who now wears black and silver.
Jaime also wears the proud Lannister armor that is identical to Tywin’s armor.
In the final sequence of the episode, Bronn knocked Jaime off of his horse to save him from Drogon’s fire. They fell into the lake and Jaime was seen sinking to the bottom of the lake, dragged by his heavy Lannister armor. His Lannister armor could represent Cersei in his life and she is dragging him down. Olenna already warned him she will be the end of him.
Daenery’s question
Jon showed Daenerys the drawings left behind by the Children of the Forest. There were also drawings that showed that the Children and the First Men fought together against their common enemy, the White Walkers.
Daenerys, convinced of the threat, told Jon that she will fight for him and the North when he bends the knee.
Jon stated that the Northerners won’t accept a Southern ruler after everything that happened, and Daenerys asked him a question, “Isn’t their survival more important than your pride?” This is the very same question that Jon asked Mance Rayder back in Season 5. Jon was asking Mance Rayder to bend the knee to Stannis Baratheon.
Chaos is a ladder
Littlefinger, known for outthinking and outmaneuvering his opponents, was startled by Bran. In “The Spoils Of War,” Littlefinger was working his way into Bran’s good graces by giving him a Valyrian Steel dagger, the same dagger that was used by the catspaw assassin that tried to kill him in Season 1.
Littlefinger was talking about how he’s in Winterfell to protect the Stark children until he mentioned the word ‘chaos’. Littlefinger stopped in his tracks when Bran suddenly said: “Chaos is a ladder.” It is the same line that Littlefinger told Varys in "The Climb" (S03E06) while they were talking about the Iron Throne.
Bran has let Littlefinger know that he knows everything, including what he’s up to. Littlefinger can’t manipulate or outmaneuver Bran with his Three-eyed Raven powers. It is also possible that Bran knows the treacheries Littlefinger did against the Starks.
