Who has not heard of “The Addams Family”? An iconic ideal American family with a satirical twist. With the characters known famously for their morbid and eccentric personalities and their love for all things macabre, “The Addams Family” is an American classic.
The story revolves around the Addams family which is composed of Gomez and Morticia, their children Wednesday and Pugsley. They are joined by Uncle Fester, Grandmama, and their imposing butler Lurch. The excellent additions Cousin Itt (a being covered with hair, and Thing (the disembodied hand).

The Addams Family was originally a single-panel cartoon comic, by Charles Addams, which was published in The New Yorker from 1938 until 1988 – Addams’ death. In 1964, the comic-inspired a live-action television series on ABC. It was followed by an Animated series in 1973 on NBC and another in 1992 on ABC.
The franchise is popularly known for their films “The Addams Family” in 1991, which was followed by the sequel “Addams Family Values” two years later. The characters were popularly portrayed by Anjelica Huston (Morticia), Raul Julia (Gomez), Christopher Lloyd (Fester) and Christina Ricci (Wednesday).
Animated reboot
It has been a long time since The Addams Family made an appearance, but Gomez, Morticia and the rest of the family might be making a comeback in the next few years. Word has been going around that a Reboot is in the works under MGM Studios.
Conrad Vernon has been reported to direct the planned animated remake of The Addams Family, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Some of Vernon’s previous works are “The Sausage Party”, “Monsters vs Aliens” and “Madagascar 3: Europe’s Most Wanted”. According to Critical Hit, Tim Burton was the initial choice to direct the reboot.
Pamela Pettler will write the new screenplay, with revisions by Matt Lieberman. It will be based on the original comics and cartoon adaptations.
Some of Pettler’s previous works are “Corpse Bride” and “Monster House”. The reboot’s animation will be handled by Cinesite in Canada, best known for their CG effects works on “X-Men: Apocalypse” and “Assassin’s Creed”.
On Broadway
In 2007, a musical inspired by The Addams Family was developed. Marshall Brickman and Rick Elice wrote the story, with the music and lyrics written by Andrew Lippa and directed by Matthew White. The musical is currently touring around the UK until early November.
The musical is set in the near future, a now 18-year-old Wednesday Addams has fallen in love with a Lucas Beineke and the couple wants to receive their family’s blessings before they get married. Wednesday invites Lucas’s obsessively normal family to meet her completely eccentric family.
The animated Addams family reboot doesn’t have an announced release date yet, but we’re excited to see the macabre family return!
