“The Flash” Season 4 airs this fall and we have some facts and possible spoilers for fans below. The installment may take on the “Rebirth” storyline from the comics as hinted by the production staff.
Release date
The new season airs at the usual time slot Tuesdays beginning on Oct. 10 at 8 PM on The CW. Season 4 has 23 episodes in total.
DC’s 'The Flash: Rebirth'
To announce the start of filming for Season 4, the production staff tweeted the title for the premiere episode.
Their post has since been deleted but not before several news outlets grabbed a screenshot. Episode 1 is called “The Flash: Reborn,” which could hint at the “Rebirth” storyline from “The Flash” comics.
If Season 4 takes after the “Rebirth” story then it would make sense given what happened in the Season 3 Finale. To recap, Barry Allen (Grant Gustin) sacrificed himself to save Central City from the unbalanced Speed Force. He walked inside the Speed Force to be trapped there for who knows how long.
Now, in the “Rebirth” storyline, Barry returns to Earth 1 Central City after being trapped in the Speed Force.
However, he later realizes that he is slowly turning to the Black Flash after he was hit by a negative energy that Reverse Flash/Eobard Thawne created. He decides to go back to the Speed Force to spare his friends. It would be interesting to see the scarlet speedster turn into the Black Flash in “The Flash” Season 4. However, this may be too much of a stretch given that Reverse Flash is already dead.
What happens when Season 4 opens?
The installment opens with a time jump six months into the future. Barry is still in the Speed Force and Wally West aka Kid Flash (Keiynan Lonsdale) takes on the mantle of Central City’s speedster hero. However, Lonsdale confirmed in a previous interview that Wally does not become the scarlet speedster in Season 4.
Wally still has a lot to learn being a speedster and the installment expounds on this. There are rumors though that he and Cisco (Carlos Valdes) find a way to retrieve Barry from the Speed Force.
Meanwhile, Barry’s fiancée Iris West (Candice Patton) assumes the position of team leader in his absence. Patton told TV Line that viewers will see a different version of her character. Fans will see a stronger Iris as she tries to cope with Barry’s absence in her own way.
New villain in “The Flash” Season 4
Barry’s nemesis is no speedster instead he is a human being named Clifford DeVoe aka The Thinker. “Game of Thrones” actor Miltos Yerolemou auditioned for the part and he teased what fans can expect from the character. Apparently, the TV version of the villain is closely associated with his comic book counterpart. Yerolemou said The Thinker is a fast talker and really smart.
