"Outlander" might be returning to Starz in less than three months, but fans will have to wait longer before Claire and Jamie reunite on screen. Last season ended with Claire (Caitriona Balfe) and Jamie (Sam Heughan) parting ways before the Battle of Culloden. When will Claire find her way back to Jamie in Season 3?

Jamie and Claire are worlds apart

According to TV Guide, executive producer Ron Moore confirmed that Claire and Jamie will be spending time apart at the beginning of Season 3.

In last season’s finale, Claire told her daughter Brianna (Sophie Skelton) that they needed to travel back in time and find Jamie. Sadly, their task is easier said than done.

“We’re going to keep them apart for a while,” Moore shared.

Season 3 of "Outlander" is based on Diana Gabaldon’s best-seller, Voyager. Although the show will feature all of the major storylines in the book, Moore admitted they are switching things up a bit. This is one reason why Jamie and Claire aren’t reuniting right away and why fans will have to wait a bit longer for the highly anticipated print shop scene.

Claire and Frank

The upcoming season will begin by focusing on Claire’s new life with her husband, Frank (Tobias Menzies). It will also explore Jamie’s journey after the Battle of Culloden, which means fans will get to see both characters right from the start.

Once Claire ventures out to find Jamie, Brianna and Roger (Richard Rankin) will be there to help. Brianna and Roger might be spending the majority of their time assisting Claire, but they’ll also grow closer as a result. This is certainly an exciting development and should offer fans another couple to root for in the coming season.

Season 3 production details

While we eagerly wait for Droughtlander to end, Carter Matt reports that production is currently in full swing in South Africa.

Moore recently dished on the new filming location and admitted that South Africa helped generate a different feeling on set.

“You felt a different energy on the set because they were somewhere else … It’s a very different place,” he shared.

Production in South Africa is only weeks away from ending. From there, Moore and his crew will start working hard on editing and fine tuning each episode for the coming season. We can only hope they get everything done on time and avoid any delays.

According to International Business Times, South Africa is being used for scenes in Jamaica in Season 3. While Claire begins her journey to reunite with Jamie, the couple will eventually travel away from Scotland to some pretty exotic places, including the Caribbean. This is a welcome change for the series, which remained in Scotland and France for the first two seasons.

The new season of "Outlander" is scheduled to premiere on Starz in September.
