‘Arrow’ becomes Ninja Warrior for Red Nose Day

It’s was Red Nose Day in the U.S. yesterday, and there were plenty of celebrity specials. One in particular had fanboys and fangirls around the world screaming. They couldn’t contain themselves as “Arrow” took on “American Ninja Warrior.” Stephen Amell took on a course that many others have tried and failed.

Taking on the salmon ladder for real

As the commentators pointed out throughout Amell’s run, he does the majority of his own stunts on “Arrow.” There are no prosthetics added to make him look buffer than he really is.

This is a man of steel—obviously in the wrong show when put that way! It shouldn’t be that surprising that he’s done the salmon ladder himself for filming.

But fans have never really had the chance to see Green Arrow in real action. While Amell has shared himself doing the salmon ladder before, “American Ninja Warrior” was the first time fans really got to see him do it in style. He certainly didn’t disappoint, making it look like the easiest thing in the world.

‘Arrow’ didn’t get all the way across

Unfortunately, a clean sweep of every obstacle wasn’t something that happened. The six-foot-one star struggled on the final hurdle; a new addition, especially for him.

It’s not that surprising that he failed since he had no idea what to expect. He did manage to complete far more than the majority of the others who have tried the course.

The final hurdle saw him attempt it. As he hung from a suspended board, he lost his grip and fell into the pool of water below. Afterward, he thanked fans for the support as he attempted one of the hardest fitness challenges in the world.

Not the only star to take on ‘American Ninja Warrior’

For Red Nose Day a number of other celebrities took on the challenges. Some of them included “Dancing with the Stars” dancer, Derek Hough and actress Mena Suvari. All celebrities were paired with an all-star contestant, who would cheer their celebrity along at each hurdle.

For “Arrow” fans, the inclusion of Amell was the most exciting part. Fans finally got to see Amell in action in real life. It makes it clear that the costumes, the action scenes, and the challenges are not just for the show. This is a man who does look after himself and wants to be the best he can be.

“Arrow” Season 5 is now over. The show has been confirmed for a sixth season and will return sometime in the fall 2017 schedule on The CW, likely sometime in October. It is moving nights to Thursdays at 9 p.m. for the fall.
