"This Is Us" has touched fans with a heartfelt storyline that just keeps getting better with each episode. The current day lives of the The Big Three are depicted, along with flashbacks to the early years with Jack (Milo Ventimiglia) and Rebecca (Mandy Moore) raising the triplets.
Jack Pearson is a very loving father and a wonderful husband, winning over the hearts of the viewers. We know he passes away unexpectedly in the mid 90s when his children are teenagers. His death left each of his children struggling with losing their father. Kate (Chrissy Metz) is still unable to talk about it, even to her fiance.
What does Justin say?
In a recent interview with US Weekly, Justin Hartley said that the fan theories he has seen are wrong. In fact, he says that there is no way fans will figure this one out. Jack's death will be something viewers never see coming. The guesses of an alcohol-related car crash or an illness such as cancer are out. Even the idea of a plane crash based on Kevin saying he destroyed his model airplanes when his father died. Viewers are back to square one.
Milo Ventimiglia has also said that the death of Jack will be terrible. He told "Entertainment Tonight" that the viewers would never guess how he meets his untimely death. He predicts that viewers will be so wrapped up in the story of the family of five that it will take them by surprise when it happens.
Milo does say that it will be a very sad and painful experience. He does reveal that it isn't close yet, however.
The show creator speaks out!
"This Is Us" creator, Dan Fogelman, spoke with the Television Critics Association panel recently. He said his plans were to let viewers know the timeframe of Jack's untimely death this season, which they have done.
The rest of the story will be told over many, many episodes. Eventually they will reveal how he died. Over the course of several shows, the story of his death is told. It sounds as if he will tell the full story in the third season, which is already guaranteed.
The thing for fans to remember is that once the story is told, Jack will still be a part of the show. The flashbacks will continue and we won't be losing a beloved character.
