Shows like "2 Broke Girls" and "Last Man Standing" are some of the shows that were canceled in 2017, due to, arguably, political correctness. Both being comedies, they make jokes that are not exactly to everyone's taste. "Last Man Standing" was abruptly canceled after only six seasons, because of the main character, Tim Allen and his political beliefs. Many other shows were cancelled in the same period of time. I will be focusing on these two and how they were affected by current politics.
'2 Broke Girls'
After six seasons, "2 Broke Girls" was canceled by CBS and Warner Bros due to "disagreement on the networks," but it was well known many people did not like their jokes and stereotypical demeanor.
But it did had a fan base and the acting was definitely okay.
The ratings of the show were average compared to shows similar to them, which makes you wonder at the real reason why it was canceled. Spoilers say that the last episode, Season 6, Episode 22, ends with Max (Kat Dennings) getting engaged with on again, off-again boyfriend, Randy (Ed Quinn).
Similar to "Last Man Standing," the show did not have a proper ending, making fans upset. It also started the personal growth in Max because she had never been in a very serious relationship, growing up poor and not trusting anyone around her. Her fiancé was rich and older; and with the help of Carolina, Max's business partner, Max could have grown up and improved her life.
But we will never know because of its abrupt cancellation.
"2 Broke Girls" is known for having a lot of inappropriate jokes and nonpolitical corrected commentary, but in a world where everything is censored, this is one of the few shows that could speak their mind. You can watch any of episodes Free on Demand with Optimum, Verizon and other cable companies.
If you watch at least one episode, it will prove my point.
'Last Man Standing'
If you are easily offended, this show was not for you, but in this political climate, having a show like that, specially on ABC, a Television Network owned by Walt Disney Company, known for being liberal was not okay. Mike Baxter, played by Tim Allen, is a known conservative who supports Trump.
Just like "2 Broke Girls," "Last Man Standing "was doing well in ratings. The talks between ABC and Warner Bros stopped suddenly after Tim's comments, where he said, "You get beat up if you don't believe what everyone believes. This is like '30s Germany..."
For the record, I do not agree with his point of views, but I do think everyone has the right to their own opinion. His comments, according to the show's fans, was the reason why the show was canceled. "Last Man Standing" talks a lot about American values, like hunting, girls scouts, church, capitalism and letting kids being kids, among other values.
Ideally, politics shouldn't dictate business decisions, but great shows should not end based on political outcry. They should be canceled if they are based on low ratings and viewership.
