Donald Trump was bashed after his press conference on Tuesday when it took him two days to condemn the white supremacists in the protest that happened in Charlottesville, Virginia over the weekend. In addition to this, he blamed both parties for being violent. Thus, the president and his wife, Melania Trump, are hoping to avoid more issues by skipping this year's kennedy center honors.

Trumps Not Attending Kennedy Center Honors 2017

On Saturday morning, the White House announced that the POTUS and FLOTUS are not attending Kennedy Center Honors "to allow the honorees to celebrate without any political distraction," New York Times reported.

Each year, the Kennedy Center honors the artists' who contributed in shaping the cultural life in the United States. The event usually includes celebration and events. This year, the Trumps decided to avoid additional controversy, so they opted to skip the annual event.

Since Trump decided to run for president he was already plagued with different controversies because of his bold statements. He once called the Mexicans “rapists” and “murderers” and brought fears to the immigrants when he aimed to target them out of the country.

Months after Trump assumed the presidency, there were rumors that he wanted to resign as the head of the state. However, his pride is stopping him from stepping down.

The POTUS doesn’t want to make a history as the man “who tried and failed.” Also, he doesn’t want to be known as the second president in history to hand a resignation. So, Trump is keeping his position.

The question is can Trump last more months or years? Since Trump became the president his critics continue to grow. No matter what he does, those who are against him have always something negative to say about it.

Also, more and more have spoken up against him. They either bash him, withdraw their support or decline any invitation involving him.

Awardees declined the White House reception invitation

Prior to the White House's announcement, a number of awardees have already declined to attend the gala event at the White House that will be held in conjunction with the official presentation of the Kennedy Center Honors.

For instance, Carmen de Lavallade, dancer and choreographer, who is to be honored by the Kennedy Center in December already announced that she declined the invitation to attend the reception at the White House. She explained that the current leadership's priorities and her principle do not agree. Norman Lear, a television producer, who is known for his progressive political activism also decided to forgo the White House invitation.
