210,606 pounds of hotdogs recalled by the Food Safety and Inspection Agency

Today, the U.S. Department Of Agriculture released a report that nearly 210,606 pounds hot dogs were recalled after a failed food safety inspection. The department said the recall was issued by John Morrell & Co whose ready-to-eat products contain extraneous materials. The batches of hot dogs are contaminated with small pieces of metal. They include the 14 ounce 'Nathan’s SKINLESS 8 BEEF FRANKS' produced on January 26 with an expiration date of August 19, 2017.

The agency's report revealed that the recalled products are already on store shelves in numerous retail outlets. They have also reported that three consumers filed complaints about metal objects in the packaged products.

According to the complaints, individuals prepared the hot dogs for consumption, and after taking a few bites, they realized that there were solid objects inside the chewed portions. Luckily, no injuries were sustained. Additionally, the manufacturer quickly notified retail chains of the recalled products. The Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) and the company involved is watching for further developments.

The public health agency is part of the United States Department of Agriculture. Its responsibilities include monitoring the country’s commercial chains and companies thatt supply eggs, poultry, and meat to several retail outlets. The FSIS also ensures that every item that gets to the end users is correctly packaged and has the right label. John Morrell & Co., the company involved in the recall is based in Cincinnati, Ohio. It was founded in the 1830’s by George Morrell, who was a poor wool comber. However, in 1827, at 39 years-old, he received a very small inheritance of sixty English Pounds.

It is reported that he paid off the family's debt and used the leftover money to purchase a small box of oranges, which he sold at the local market.

And from that tiny investment came the birth of the John Morrel Company. The establishment has continued its founder’s tradition for over 140 years. They supply a wide variety of lunch and breakfast meats such as ham, hot dogs, bacon, lunch meat and smoked sausage. Many retail businesses throughout the United States receive products from this meat manufacturer.
