Samsung’s upcoming smartphone the Galaxy S8 Active has already been spotted on benchmarking website Geekbench. However, it is again in the news and this time has surfaced on GFXBench, which suggests that the handset is set to launch anytime soon.

What does the listing reveal?

The GFXBench listing for the Galaxy S8 Active comes under the same model name – SM-G892A – with which it was first rumored in April. The smartphone’s prototype was running on Android 7.0 Nougat “Samsung Edition” on the benchmarking site and boasted a 5.4-inch full HD display with 2,008 x 1,080 pixel resolution.

However, the screen size and the resolution coupled together seem rather odd, which is not very surprising as GFXBench does not have the reputation of depicting screen size accurately in the past, particularly in matters of unreleased devices.

Apart from this, the GFXBench listing reveals that the S8 Active is running on an Qualcomm octa-core Snapdragon 835 CPU, clocking at 2.3 GHz. The smartphone will be housing an Adreno 540 GPU and offer 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of internal storage. However, the user will be able to use only 53 GB out of the available 64 GB.

The smartphone will apparently come with an 12-megapixel autofocus rear camera and a 8-megapixel front facing selfie snapper. Both the front and rear cameras will come equipped with full HD video recording capabilities.

Apart from these, the rear camera will be coming with features including face detection, HDR photo capture, LED flash, and touch focus.

Given that the smartphone is marketed as a rugged device, it is expected that it will feature the standard IP68 certification, which ensures that the smartphone will be fairly water and dust resistant.

The Galaxy S8 Active, on the other hand, may come with the MIL-STD-810G standard compliance for protection against falls and drops as well.

Release date and price

According to a leaked image of the Galaxy S8 Active, which surfaced in May, the smartphone holds a strong resemblance to the LG G6 rather than the Galaxy S8 smartphones.

Given that the smartphone has been developed and manufactured for rugged working conditions, the physical dimensions, styling, and design can be expected to be quite different from the flagship smartphones Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+. The leaked image revealed that the Galaxy S8 Active sported a flat screen display rather than an edge-to-edge Infinity Display. As of now, there is no news about the launch date or the price of the Galaxy S8 Active.
