South Korean OEM Samsung has been unveiling rugged and robust editions of its Galaxy Active smartphone brand since 2013. It seems that this year too Samsung would be launching an Active handset. The next-gen smartphone is dubbed Samsung Galaxy S8 Active and was spotted listed on the company’s official website.

Samsung listing confirms Galaxy S8 Active

The listing was uncovered by leakster Roland Quandt who shared the find on Twitter. However, for now, only the device’s name has been revealed, along with the Model Number and the operating system it is running on.

According to the Samsung website listing, the Galaxy S8 Active comes with model number G892A and seems to be running on Android 7.x Nougat mobile operating system. The listed prototype is an LTE variant. The model number of the rumored S8 Active - G892A - replaces just one digit from the model number of its predecessor, the S7 Active sports the model number G891A. The model number of the S8 Active corroborates previous rumors, which mentioned the same model number.

It was previously rumored that the new smartphone would be heading to AT&T as some AT&T specific apps were found in the list of apps that would make their way to the impending handset.

Similar to all predecessors of the Galaxy Active models, it seems that the impending smartphone too will be a U.S. exclusive model and will be offered by AT&T.

Rumored specs

According to an alleged leaked image of the S8 Active, which surfaced last month, the smartphone bears a strong resemblance to the LG G6. The rounded corner of the screen makes the resemblance much stronger.

The smartphone sported a flat screen in the leaked image instead of the curved Infinity Display made popular by Samsung’s flagship smartphones i.e. Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+.

However, a flat screen is more suited to the S8 Active as the smartphone was developed and manufactured to define the term rugged, which would include rough handling and operating the device in fieldwork, without causing much damage to the smartphone.

Speculations are rife that the S8 Active, like its predecessors, would be drop proof and able to withstand damage if dropped from a height of 5 feet. Apart from that, the smartphone would also be water and dust resistant. The handset is likely to boast of a 5.8-inch display and could be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor. It may also come with a 4,000 mAh battery and 4 GB of RAM
