The next iteration of iPhone 8 will be featuring a curved screen. The Cupertino giant is also ditching the lightning charging port and instead will feature the standard USB-C standard. If rumors are to be believed, Apple will be incorporating the flexible display technology and has ordered adequate components to enable mass production.

According to an article published on The Wall Street Journal, the next iPhones will feature a “USB-C port for the power cord and other peripheral devices instead of the company’s original Lightning Connector.”

There were rumors that Apple has been researching flexible organic light emitting diode also known as OLED.

Its rival Samsung also uses the same display for its Smartphone and Apple has been asking different suppliers for prototypes. The technology enables the display to be bent, and this can be seen on some Samsung phones.

Major Facelift long overdue

Apple has been facing stagnation in sales and using OLED will give a new look to the Apple flagship just like in the past when the iPhone 6 was launched, a slimmer smartphone with bigger displays and it helped the sales to rise and earned handsome profits for the Cupertino-based company. The iPhone 7 was introduced in September, and it was only a refurbished version of its predecessor, and this led to a slowing of sales of Apple phones in China.

High expectation

It is a decade since the first iPhone hit the shelves in 2007. Expectations are high with consumers expecting something significant from the company which was pulled out from being a small fry to dizzying heights by its charismatic CEO the late Steve Jobs. Already the shares of Apple have started rising in anticipation. The smartphone is expected to cost $1000 and the selling price of an iPhone to be in between $684 to $666.

Till date, the iPhones featured the liquid crystal display, but now persons familiar with Apple’s plans are saying that Apple could be launching two models featuring LCD and the third one with OLED screen. There are talks about Apple doing away with the physical home button. It will bring features which are available in other smartphones to iPhone.
