Cristiano Ronaldo toppled Selena Gomez as the most followed Instagram account. He has over 144 million followers, according to the Bleacher Report. B&R Football posted up on their Twitter account to celebrate the milestone, saying, "@Cristiano Ronaldo becomes the most followed person on Instagram, overtaking @selenagomez."

Fans of Soccer love to interact with the stars of the game, and Cristiano keeps them regularly updated.

He also has over 75 million followers on Twitter. Over on his Facebook page, 120,802,336 follow him as well. Obviously, lots of them are duplicated followers on the various sites, but that makes for a massive following even so.

His newest post on Instagram post shared Monday evening has over 4 million likes already. In the photo, he's standing on a balcony and in the street below crowds of people are waving and trying to snap photos. He captioned it with, "Can you guess where am I? Check out my story ;) #pestanacr7 #cr7."

The story said he was at the Pestana CR7 hotel, but hey, there are so many of them!

Lots of followers tried to guess which one he was in. Some of Cristiano's followers just listed each one they could think of. Guesses came in as:

  • @lipholo1258: "Ooh you are in Maseru (Africa)."
  • @shantanu.19: "Amsterdam."
  • @ben.blf: "In Madeira in the CR7 hotel ❤️"

In fact, there were more guesses, from the USA to Canada, and beyond. Some even mentioned Las Vegas, and for his sake, hopefully, he was not there. His life is in turmoil now, over a police investigation into him in the city.

Instagrammers love Cristiano, but one person makes allegations

The Guardian reported that Las Vegas has a bad taste for the famous Real Madrid and Juventus player. Kathryn Mayorga alleged that she was sexually assaulted in 2009 by Cristiano and was later paid some "hush-money" to bury it.

Police noted she did not disclose details and the case was closed, However, in September this year, she went public, apparently "inspired by the #MeToo movement.

Cristiano hopes the real truth will come out one day as the story is "interfering in my life." He added, “I have a partner, four children, an ageing mother, sisters, a brother, a family with whom I am very close. Not to mention my reputation, which is that of someone exemplary."

Instagram followers remain loyal

Despite the allegations, over a hundred million people adore him and follow him avidly on Instagram. Even on Twitter, known for trolls, there are few nasty comments directed at the man who is perceived to be one of soccers greatest players.
