After a close loss in Game 1, the Minnesota Lynx were able to grab a close win in Game 2. Despite holding a huge lead over the Los Angeles Sparks at one point in the game, Minnesota managed to hold on for a 70-68 win. All five of the Minnesota starters had double-digits for points with WNBA MVP Sylvia Fowles achieving a double-double stat line. Game 2 recap

In tonight's important win by the Minnesota Lynx, the current MVP reigned supreme. She scored 13 points but hauled in 17 rebounds, which was nearly half her team's total. Fowles also recorded two blocked shots and four steals in the effort. Teammate Maya Moore scored 13 points and had five rebounds, while Lindsay Whalen scored 14 points on 6-for-12 shooting. Rebekka Brunson had 12 points while Seimone Augustus finished with 11.

In the losing effort, the Los Angeles Sparks had 17 points, six assists, and five boards from Candace Parker. Nneka Ogwumike scored 11 points and pulled down 13 rebounds, while Chelsea Gray scored 15 points.

Odyssey Sims added 10 points and dished out five assists on the night.

Minnesota opened up with a 28-10 quarter in the first part of tonight's game and held a 45-26 lead by halftime. The Sparks cut into the lead with a 24-15 scoring pace in the third quarter and outscored the Lynx 18-10 in the fourth. Maya Moore pushed her team's lead to four points with about 43 seconds left, but then Candace Parker hit two free throws to cut the lead to two. Moore would miss on an 18-foot jumper giving L.A. hope. However, the team would turn the ball over on a five-second call. Moments later, Seimone Augustus lost the ball out of bounds. The finish saw Chelsea Gray have the ball stolen from her by Rebecca Brunson to seal the win.

Next games in series

The WNBA Finals are off to an exciting start with each team claiming close wins. L.A. won Game 1 and Minnesota took the second game. The series will go at least four games now as it's all tied up at 1-1. Now things will shift over to the Sparks' home court in Los Angeles. Game 3 is set for Friday, September 29 with a 9 p.m. ET start. ESPN2 will carry the live telecast with WatchESPN live streaming it.

Game 4 will also take place in Los Angeles. It's scheduled for Sunday, October 1 at 8:30 p.m. ET on ESPN. If necessary, a decisive fifth game in the series will take place in Minnesota on Wednesday, October 4th at 8 p.m. ET on ESPN.
