The NBA offseason ended with Carmelo Anthony joining the Oklahoma City Thunder and the Sacramento Kings giving Divac an extension on his GM role. Before the Carmelo trade was completed, ESPN reporters said that the Knicks offered Carmelo Anthony for Tristan Thompson. The Western Conference next season will be very tough as compared to the substantially weaker Eastern Conference.
Divac will lead rebuild through 2019-2020
Adam Wells of Bleacher Report has reported that former Kings superstar has agreed to an extension of his general manager role until 2019-20. This move will is for Vlade Divac to have enough time to correctly rebuild the franchise ever since they traded DeMarcus Cousins to the Pelicans last February. Vlade Divac has been busy this offseason, he acquired Zach Randolph, Vince Carter, and went on to draft De'Aaron Fox in the NBA draft. Sacramento Kings fans do still have a lot to look forward to, especially if Fox can excel at the NBA level.
Vlade Divac played a total of 16 seasons in the NBA (seven for the Los Angeles Lakers, two for the Charlotte Hornets, and six for the Sacramento Kings).
Vlade Divac retired and played his last NBA game in 2005 for the Los Angeles Lakers. He had career averages of 11.8 points, 1.4 blocks, 1.1 steals, 3.1 assists, and 8.2 rebounds while shooting 49.5 percent from the field and 69.2 percent from the charity stripe. He was then hired as the European scout for the Los Angeles Lakers for 2005-06. In March of 2015, he was hired as the vice president of basketball and franchise operations by the Sacramento Kings. Later he was promoted to vice president of basketball operations and then general manager.
Thompson could have been traded to the Knicks
Dave Mcmenamin of NBA ESPN has reported that the New York Knicks offered Carmelo Anthony to the Cleveland Cavaliers for Tristan Thompson before he was dealt to the Oklahoma CIty Thunder.
When Carmelo was informed that the Houston Rockets trade was not going to be possible, he expanded his team options by adding the Cleveland Cavaliers and the Oklahoma City Thunder. The Knicks wanted Tristan Thompson, but Cleveland was only willing to trade away Channing Frye and Iman Shumpert for Carmelo Anthony. Thompson has career averages of 9.4 points, 0.8 blocks, 0.5 steals, 0.8 assists, and 8.6 rebounds per game while shooting 51.5 percent from the field and 61.1 percent from the charity stripe.
