Recently, Kyrie Irving requested a trade from the Cleveland Cavaliers. Yes, the All-Star point guard wanted to leave the franchise in pursuit of a much bigger role. He was reportedly sick of playing alongside LeBron James and wanted to be the focal point.
Soon after Kyrie Irving's trade request surfaced, other NBA teams quickly showed their interest towards the superstar. One of these organizations is none other than the Miami Heat. Here is everything about it in a nutshell.
Dion Waiters on Irving
According to Yahoo! Sports, the Heat guard Waiters was not happy after hearing the possibility of Irving joining the team.
It is worth noting that the two were former Cleveland teammates, but they did not have a healthy relationship. There were reports about former coach David Blatt telling Waiters that he would need Irving as the spot-up shooter. Unfortunately, Waiters said no as he thought he was better than Irving. In an interview with HipHopSince1987, the Heat guard said that having Irving will help the Miami. However, if they are to talk about who the alpha male will be, it is clearly him and not Irving.
It holds true that Waiters has some “irrational” confidence, something that Miami coach Spoelstra is very aware of. Waiters' shot at Kyrie Irving is not entirely new. He is known for taking shots and talking boastfully about his talents.
He once mentioned about being the kind of shooting guard that can line up next to the likes of Kobe Bryant and Dwyane Wade. He even boasted about always asking the ball from LeBron James. But perhaps the hard hitting one was when he claimed that NBA was lucky to have him in the league. In one way or another, Waiters has so much going on.
Is Irving finally going to the Heat?
There is still no confirmation whatsoever that Kyrie Irving will go to the Miami Heat. However, the organization has already iterated their interest towards the Cleveland Cavaliers guard. This is actually an interesting turn of events if he ends up in South Beach. It is worth noting that James also became part of the franchise when he decided to team up with Chris Bosh and Dwyane Wade.
Kyrie Irving wanted to be in a team in which he would be the main guy, the focal point. In Cleveland, he certainly cannot achieve such states as long as James is there. However, many are skeptical about Irving having another shot at a championship run without James’ help. Whether or not this is possible remains to be seen.
