While most Nebraska Football fans were busy paying attention to how many four and five star recruits the Huskers landed, there is a reason why it would have paid off to pay more attention to the players who ended up walking on. While in-state athletes tend to have a hard time getting looks from big-time programs in college football, the Huskers landed several that could make enough noise that they will get some playing time. Jordan Paup is one that several people have talked about, but there are others on the roster who could raise eyebrows.

Paup stands out

Certainly, there is a reason why Jordan Paup stands out when it comes to the players for the Nebraska football team who walked on. The defensive lineman quite simply put up numbers that would have him getting four-star or five-star ratings if he did what he did in Lincoln, Omaha, or another state. In his senior year at Central City, Paup posted 74 total tackles as well as 29 tackles for loss. He also logged 13 sacks. Over the course of his high school career, the big man from the small town logged 239 tackles, 24 sacks, and seven fumbles forced. The sack totals especially jumped from his junior to senior year, showing he might be maturing as a pass rusher in a big way.

Other notables

Paup might be the headliner but he's joined on the Nebraska football team by talented players like Cole Frahm, Ethan Cox and Cody Liske. Cox could end up being the most interesting, and the best of the rest for the walk-ons because he made a name for himself both at quarterback and safety. As a QB, Cox threw for over 1,700 yards, 19 touchdowns (to just 8 picks), and ran for another 500 yards.

As a safety, he recorded 28 tackles, one sack, and two interceptions. Frahm is a kicker out of Omaha Burke who appears to have a pretty decent leg considering he had 65 touchbacks on 68 kickoffs. Liske joins the Huskers after a successful career at Bennington, where he played RB and linebacker. Defender is where he made the most impact, recording 89 tackles after recording 85 in his junior season.
