Lindsay Ell was 21 years old when she moved to Nashville to pursue her music career in 2010. Although she was no newcomer to playing music, she wanted to find her own sound and niche. When she first moved to the U.S. from her hometown of Calgary, AB, she told L.A. Times “I was hearing so much from everyone around me that I didn’t know who I was or what I wanted anymore.” Thankfully, she soon found herself.

Canadian artist takes on Music City

Before moving to the states, Ell had released her debut album in 2006. It was titled ‘Consider This’ and was produced by Randy Bachman. Lindsay was only 15 when Bachman, of "Guess Who" and "Bachman Turner Overdrive," discovered her, L.A Times reminds us. A few years later, she decided to move to Nashville.

Once in Tennessee, the young artist began working with a plethora of other songwriters. She has now been signed to Stoney Creek Records for five years. On March 24, 2017, Stoney Creek released Lindsay’s EP, ‘Worth the Wait.’ On the EP were five tracks that would appear on her soon-to-be-released album, ‘The Project.’ The full album was released in August 2017; however, before the album could even be written, Lindsay had to find her own sound.

Lindsay Ell meets Kristian Bush

Two years ago, Lindsay met Kristian Bush of Sugarland, and that’s how it all started. Lindsay has said that Kristian, being a songwriter and producer, knew exactly what she needed. The Rollingstone says he told her to record her favorite album start to finish. She had to complete this project on her own in two weeks, and she had to play every instrument herself.

Lindsay picked John Mayer’s ‘Continuum,’ which she says is her favorite album of all time. She thought she had the project in the bag, but, in her interview with L.A. Times, she said, “As soon as I started trying to figure out exactly what he did and how he did it, I started wondering what I’d got myself into.”

Ell spent 14 straight days in the studio to complete the cover album.

The cover of ‘Continuum’ was originally never going to be released; it was a homework assignment meant to help Lindsay find the path her own music would take. Many fans begged for the rising star to release her cover project once they caught wind that it had been recorded.

Kristian ended up removing the drum tracks before the album was released, but Lindsay recorded all the guitar, bass guitar, piano, and vocal tracks on her own. ‘The Continuum Project’ can be found on iTunes, Spotify, or Amazon Music.
