The new 20-second video teaser for Krypton has been released and the upcoming television series is slated to tell about Superman’s roots, Screen Rant reported. The new TV show will be aired on Syfy and in partnership with DC.

The newly-released teaser unveiled pertinent details about the story including battle scenes, Superman’s cape and the family that raised the superhero. Just like the other prequel series such as “Gotham” for Batman, the upcoming show is expected to unveil the mystery behind the House of El.

The series is set two generations before the popularly known destruction of Krypton, Superman’s home planet.

It also focuses on his biological grandfather in his journey to redeem his family from the chaos that their world has faced.

David S. Goyer, who has previously worked with hit movie “Man Of Steel,” and Ian Goldberg wrote the story. Goldberg is best known for his project “Once Upon A Time.” Meanwhile, the first episode is set to be directed by Colm McCarthy.

TV series cast

Superman’s grandfather Seg-El will be portrayed by Camerone Cuffe. The character is described to be a figure in the El family and “is blessed with an intuitive brilliance.” Seg-El has been demoted to the lowest status in Krypton causing division and chaos in the planet.

The new TV series will tell the story of his “forbidden” love affair with Lyta Zod, an ancestor of General Zod which is one of the arch enemies in the original comic book story.

Lyta is a part of the planet’s military force and services as a cadet in the army.

Since the story is set several years before Superman’s birth, the series will also feature Val-El who is Seg-El’s grandfather. Early on, this character has already been associated with Brainiac who is also a villain.

Other characters include Daron Vex, Primus Zod, Kem and Nyssa Vex.

Among the actors portraying these roles include Elliot Cowan, Ann Ogbomo, Rasmus Hardiker and Wallis Day. Also joining the cast are Aaron Pierre, Blake Ritson, and Paula Malcolmson. Ritson is set to portray Brainiac.

As of press time, the release date of the series has not been announced but the trailer revealed that it will be aired in 2018.
