Harrison Wells (Tom Cavanagh) from Earth 2 returns to Earth 1 in “The FlashSeason 4 Episode 3. Surprisingly, his friends at S.T.A.R. Labs are not too happy to welcome him back. Perhaps something happened in the six months that the scarlet speedster was away.

Season 3 recap

The last time that we saw Harrison Wells was in the season 3 finale of “The Flash.” He attended H.R.’s (Earth 19 Wells) funeral. He was also there when the Speed Force wreaked havoc in Central City and saw Barry Allen (Grant Gustin) sacrifice himself to save the city. Barry’s parting words to Harrison before he entered the Speed Force was a request for him to stay on his earth.

“You mind sticking around?” he asked, to which the scientist replied,” Anything for you.” Given his response, viewers would expect to see him with the team when season 4 opens. However, this was not the case.

Season 4

Harrison was not around when a Samuroid threatened to attack Central City in the premiere episode. He also missed the return of the scarlet speedster. Then he was again MIA in episode 2. Suffice to say that Harrison missed out on all the fun when The Flash returned, which brings the question, where was he while Barry was away? Did he not keep his promise that he would stay on Earth 1?

It is interesting to point out that season 4 opened with Iris West (Candice Patton) now as the team’s leader.

She was the eyes and ears for the team and she directed Wally West aka Kid Flash and Vibe on what to do. As far as what we have seen in the past three seasons, this was supposed to be Harrison’s role. He shared this task with Caitlin Snow (Danielle Panabaker). Caitlin had a good reason why she was not at S.T.A.R. Labs at the onset of the season.

She already told her friends in the season 3 finale that she would be gone for awhile to do some self-discovery. However, what is Harrison’s excuse? Perhaps he left the team to return to his earth in Barry’s absence.

Harrison returns to S.T.A.R. Labs

Perhaps this explains why he does not get a warm welcome when he returns to S.T.A.R.

Labs in season 4 episode 3. According to TV Line, he gets a chilly greeting instead when he arrives “bearing some bad news.” He also brings a message for Wally from his daughter Jesse. Regardless of the chilly welcome, he immediately helps the team in their latest case involving another metahuman, which eventually leads to his discovery of a “big clue in the brand-new metahumans mystery.”
