The excitement and the questions continue following the release of the trailer for “Star Wars: The Last Jedi.” There is much to talk and digest about the preview, but the ending scene has fans worried about one major character’s fate. Is Rey turning to the Dark Side?
Episode VIII trailer
Disney and Lucasfilm dropped the first official trailer for “Star Wars: The Last Jedi” on Tuesday, and it has since garnered over 24 million views on YouTube. The preview certainly hyped up the excitement on the release of the eighth installment in the “Star Wars” saga.
It also paved the way for several questions from fanatics, who want to inspect and digest every scene for some possible spoilers. However, the most interesting part in the trailer happened at the end, when Rey questioned her purpose and Kylo Ren seemingly answered her.
Kylo Ren helps Rey
Does Rey (Daisy Ridley) eventually team up with Kylo Ren (Adam Driver) in “Star Wars: The Last Jedi”? This is what the end of the trailer seems to suggest. In this scene, Rey is talking to someone when she says, “I need someone to show me my place in all these.” The scene cuts to the villain Kylo extending his right hand to someone. We do not see whom Rey talked to and to whom Kylo offered his hand. However, the placement of the sequences certainly had fans theorizing whether Rey and Kylo, at some point in the film, will join forces.
Rey turns to the Dark Side
Likewise, the scene seems to suggest that Rey eventually turns to the Dark side. There are scenes in the trailer that support the theory, that Rey’s fate in “Star Wars: The Last Jedi,” is akin to Luke Skywalker’s father, Anakin. The powerful Anakin turned evil and became Darth Vader. One such scene shows Luke training Rey in the ways of The Force.
He gives a look of shock mix with fear when he sees the rocky cliffs of Ahch-To crack under his pupil’s power. He then recalls someone who also possesses the same strength as Rey’s. “I’ve seen this raw strength only once before. It didn’t scare me enough then. It does now,” Luke says, and according to Fansided, he could be talking about Darth Vader’s powers.
This would explain the look of terror on his face since he fears that he might lose Rey to the Dark Side.
Regardless, the trailer for “Star Wars: The Last Jedi” could mean something else. Clearly, the scenes are edited in a way that it would tell a different story, so as not to spoil the film. So, no matter how much fans try to speculate every detail, there is no knowing what happens until the movie comes out on Dec. 15.
