Singer Nick Lachey and dance pro Peta Murgatroyd were eliminated on Monday night's episode of “Dancing With The Stars.” According to Goldderby, the episode was dubbed as “Night At The Movies” and featured dances that paid tribute to various film genres.
In a heart-pounding elimination night, Lachey and Murgatroyd joined Terrell Owens and Cheryl Burke in the bottom two. Nick received the lowest score — 26 points — putting him at the bottom of the leaderboard.
“I came in not a very good dancer, but I’m proud of the effort we gave. It was a blast,” the singer said after his name was announced.
His wife Vanessa Lachey is still in the competition and he said he will be there to support her.
Nick and Peta's dance was a Samba routine to “Wild Wild West” by Dru Hill, Will Smith, and Kool Mo Dee. Their performance paid tribute to Western Movies. The Samba routine was very unconventional and took on a more modern feel than the traditional version.
Show highlights
This week’s episode of “Dancing With The Stars” featured routines inspired action, sports, sci-fi, musical, drama and spy movies. The opening number featured both the remaining celebrity contestants, the remaining dance pros, and the eliminated dancers from the previous episodes.
The opening act took inspiration from the era of Old Hollywood.
The dancers danced to the beat of Erin Boheme’s “Hooray For Hollywood.”
Paralympian swimmer Victoria Arlen and Valentin Chmerkovskiy performed a Paso Doble to Queen’s “We Will Rock You.” The stage was turned into an ice hockey court, but only with light effects as ice, and the dancers portrayed hockey players. One of the highlights was Arlen making a score through the net before the end of their routine.
Meanwhile, WWE diva Nikki Bella and Artem Chigvintsev went for the classic foreign film genre. They danced the Argentine Tango to Indila’s “Derni è re danse.” Aside from the usual dress style of Bella, her dance partner stood out in his white formal coat and tie paired with a hat as the headpiece.
Shania Twain’s performance
Canadian singer and songwriter Shania Twain was introduced during the opening act as one of the guest judges.
She also performed “Soldier” during this week’s episode. Her hair kept with the theme of the night with an old Hollywood-inspired style. She wore a black ensemble during her performance with backup dancers moving along in the background.
