Many viewers love the NBC hit show "This Is Us" for various reasons. Some people love it for the mystery and the twists and turns that are sure to come in the series. Then, there are those who love Dan Fogelman's creation because of the powerful and emotional speeches.
Whether the character is happy, sad or mad, the speech that follows is one that makes the listener pay close attention. There were plenty of emotional speeches in Season 1. Season 2 premiere did not disappoint when it came to speeches. Every one of the main characters gave an unforgettable speech to be remembered.
Kate's speech
Kate Pearson is following her dream to become a singer. In real life, Chrissy Metz is a singer in a band. When she auditioned in the first episode of the second season, she had to downplay her voice to go along with the storyline that she needs more experience. After she was rejected, she spoke her mind telling the musical director that she can sing even though she is not a size 2. The director told her that her voice had nothing to do with her size. Kate appreciated what he told her and was delighted to get positive feedback that will help her later in her career.
Randall's speech
Randall, played by Emmy winner Sterling K. Brown, wants to adopt a child, but at first, his wife is not on board with that decision.
Randall talked to her and explained why he has such a strong desire to adopt. Then he tells Beth, played by Susan Kelechi Watson, that she needs to wrap her head around what he wants. The response his wife finally gave was even more powerful than Randall's speech. Fans might have missed it, but Beth said she would agree to adopt an older child who has nowhere else to go.
What she said made a lot of sense to Randall.
Kevin and Toby's speech
Kate is engaged to Toby, played by Chris Sullivan. Toby and Kevin, played by Justin Hartley, had a heated discussion about looking out for Kate. Kevin has always been protective of his sister, but Toby wants Kevin to let him take care of Kate. After all, they are planning to get married.
Both men explained why they should be the one to look out for Kate and her interests. Kate tells both of them to back off and stop trying to make decisions for her.
The parents' speech
Jack and Rebecca continued their conversation from last season. During the finale, it was Jack, played by Milo Ventimiglia, who did most of the talking. On the premiere of Season 2, it was Rebecca, played by Mandy Moore, who did most of the talking while forgiving Jack for ruining her chance for an acting career. In her emotional speech, she asks Jack to return home.
