Game of Thrones will come to an end in Season 8, and the worldwide fans are waiting eagerly to get a clue of what happens in the final episode. According to Casey Bloys, the president of programming, HBO, there will be multiple endings of the series shot for the finale to avoid the leaks.

‘Game of Thrones’ has been the constant target of the worldwide hackers

Ever since its overwhelming popularity, “Game of Thrones” has been subjected to several leaking. Several of the episodes were leaked online by the hackers before its scheduled airing because HBO refused to pay their demands.

According to Fox News, the seventh season of "Game of Thrones" was downloaded illegally for more than a billion times after a broadcasting error in Spain and that happened almost a week ahead of the scheduled time. In August too, four Indians were arrested for leaking an episode before it was aired. The multiple endings strategy is thus the only effective method to prevent the hackers from spilling out the endings online.

The multiple endings tool and its effectiveness

It is not the first time that HBO is using the misdirection tool to protect the show from being spoiled. The same method has been used for “Breaking Bad” or “The Sopranos.” In fact, it was also used in the 1980 show ”Dallas,” where multiple endings were shot with almost all the major actors, and even they were unaware of the conclusion.

According to BBC, Bloys said during his speech at Moravian College of Pennsylvania “You have to do that on a long show. Because when you’re shooting something, people know. So they’re going to shoot multiple versions so that there’s no real definitive answer until the end.”

‘Game of Thrones’ Season 8 might not be aired before 2019

The final season of “Game of Thrones” was announced on March 12, 2017, by D.B.

Weiss and David Benioff. Like the recent season of the show, the eighth season will also be relatively shorter than the other seasons and will be reportedly shot in multiple countries, and continents. The production will start in October and is speculated to continue till August 2018. The premiere date of season eight is not yet announced, and the multiple ending shooting might delay it further, pushing it to 2019.

However, Bloys assured that the production team is working out on the shooting schedule and the approx time for the special effects and so we can expect the announcement of the premiere date shortly.
