With "Game of Thrones" Season 7 behind us, it seems like a good time to wrap up our thoughts around everything that happened in an attempt to figure out how will certain events play out in the future. And what better way to do just that than to look back at the scenes from the season finale.
The episode itself tied up many loose ends, but it still gave us plenty of room for some serious theory-crafting.
So today, we are going to cover one of the strongest foreshadowing moments in an entire episode, and that's the reunion between the Clegane brothers. And then, we are going to talk about how that scene could shed some new light on the well-known "Cleganebowl" theory.
A quick recap
Since the Hound was in charge of bringing the wight to Cersei, the reunion between him and the Mountain was inevitable. And just the thought of them being near each other gave the fans every reason to hope that the "Cleganebowl" is finally going to happen. Instead, we just got a brief scene between them, just before the "Dragonpit" meeting took place.
It was then when the Hound approached to take a closer look at his, now undead, brother.
"Remember me?" he asked the Mountain. Gregor's dead eyes seemed to give the obvious answer. Sandor then continued by saying that whatever happened, it doesn't matter because this is not how it ends for his brother. After that, he threw the strangest line -- "You know who's coming for you. You've always known."
The theory
While there's no doubt that the next time the Clegane brothers see each other, we're finally getting the "Cleganebowl," the Hound's last line seems to suggest there is more to this theory than meets the eye. According to the Reddit user Showrunner12, the explanation might lie in the possibility that both brothers saw the vision of them fighting each other to death.
Perhaps they'll both die in this fight; perhaps it will be only the Hound that kills the Mountain, either way, the vision could explain why Gregor stuck Sandor's face in the fire when they were kids.
Our opinion
However strange that last line seems to be, we believe the Hound was just warning the Mountain that he's coming for him and always has been because of the ever-growing hatred between them. Still, it's fun to think about the vision being involved, but at the end, all that matters is that we are getting the "Cleganebowl" in Season 8. So let's just hope that it will live up to the hype that has been building around their clash ever since season one and their fight at the Hand's Tourney.
