Betty Cooper (Lili Reinhart) was best known as that sweet and innocent girl who ended up in a relationship with Jughead Jones (Cole Sprouse). For those who followed season 1 closely, she did show a dark side, that scene when she handcuffed and tortured Chuck Clayton (Jordan Calloway).

That eventually died down until it was revisited towards the season finale. All that was overshadowed with the turn of events tied up to the Jason Blossom (Trevor Stines) murder. That included the arrest of FP Jones (Skeet Ulrich) and Jughead moving over to Southside.

Twisted Betty Cooper

The word out is that “Riverdaleseason 2 will be darker and add a touch of horror/ suspense. While that remains to be seen, the whole tone could see Betty lose it.

Betty is already dealing with the conflict from within her family plus the angle of trying to understand Jughead. Though she has practiced patience, Betty could also reach that tipping point and bring out the dark side from within. The only question now is how?

Blame it on Chuck?

It would take much to draw out the dark Betty most saw in season one. The character who could successfully draw that out is Chuck. He did try to do that before the first season ended but failed.

Chuck will likely try again, a form of payback for the humiliation and suffering he got with Betty’s expose.

There is no telling how that will end up, seeing how Betty seems to be hiding something that no one would want to see.

If not Chuck, who?

Aside from Chuck Clayton, who else could draw out the dark Betty most are speculating on? Jughead could push her to do so though it would take something severe.

Other cast members who could draw out the worse from Betty include Cheryl Blossom (Madelaine Petsch), Mayor Sierra McCoy (Robin Givens) or even her parents - Hal Cooper (Lochlyn Munro) and/or Alice Cooper (Madchen Amick).

There is also newcomer Hiram Lodge (Mark Consuelos) who could push Betty to lose it. Whoever it is, that character will most likely be the controversial pawn in the mix.

Dark Betty happening short-term

Betty will reportedly be thrown into something she never imagined according to Reinhart in an interview with Comicbook.com. It could be a short-term arrangement unless Betty ends up with a vendetta to settle a score.

The only logical thing right now is Betty getting involved with FP and Jughead’s problems. With a brewing romance, Betty could do some undercover work and get to the bottom of the drug-related issue. Could this include using her dark self to get some facts from the Serpents?

If that is the script, it does make sense. Most know the aura of the Serpents so far, a dirty side for the characters so far seen in season 1. Could dark Betty draw out some valuable info to help Jughead and his dad be in the clear? “Riverdale” season 2 premieres Oct. 11 on The CW so don’t miss it!
