Riverdale’ Season 2 faces a tough task of maintaining and improving from the first season, something that may involve new twists. Season 1 revolved around the death of Jason Blossom (Trevor Stines) and had a startling revelation. It did open a big can of worms as well, exposing a big drug trafficking angle that may creep into the main protagonists.

One of the key scenes in the season finale of “Riverdale” was the inadvertent shooting of Fred Andrews (Luke Perry). While that scene looked more like being in the wrong place at the wrong time, there are likely motives behind it.

For those who followed it closely, it all leads back to the Lodges.

The Hiram Lodge factor

Before the unfortunate shooting at Pop’s Chock’lit Shoppe, Fred already had issues with Hermione Lodge (Marisol Nichols). This was mainly about the business relationship both held.

With Hiram Lodge (Mark Consuelos) returning, Hermione may have been trying to iron out the obstacles to making sure the business side of things do not go haywire. Do take note that the two did get too close for comfort, not to mention the brewing romance between Archie Andrews (KJ Appa) and Veronica Lodge (Camila Mendes).

As one can see, these plots can very well be tied up to the shooting that went down at the Chock’lit Shoppe.

Was it staged or a simple robbery that inadvertently left someone a bloody mess?

From drama to horror

Aside from the Lodge angle, there is a lot to consider too. There is the case of FP Jones (Skeet Ulrich) who remained behind bars even with the Jason Blossom murder solved. A new twist emerged with the discovered drug stash, likely something that will involve the Southside Serpents.

There is the case of Jughead (Cole Sprouse) who has transferred to Southside. Did he just complicate things even if his intent was to follow the footsteps of his dad? Where does this leave his relationship with Betty Cooper (Lili Reinhart)?

Band all those facts together, and you get a second season aching to address loose ends.

The drama will still be there but “Riverdale” showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa promises a scarier follow-up, a suspense-thriller which may place certain characters at risk, according to ComicBook.com.

Hiram Lodge looms as the character to watch, someone who will likely cross paths with the mainstays of the show. First off is her relationship with Hermione and Ronnie.

Things may be easier for Hiram and Hermione, but the case is different with Veronica. Most saw how Ronnie hated his dad though all that could change depending on the script. “Riverdale” season 2 returns Oct. 11 on The CW.
