LuAnn's costars and fans are not surprised

LuAnn minimized the slap, calling it a "love tap." Since the beginning of their relationship, rumors surrounded the couple. Often being fodder for reality TV's mixture of pseudo drama and the intimate details of the players' lives.

It's hard to know what is fact and what is fiction. Given the short time span of this marriage, many have wondered if the relationship was just another publicity stunt—a public relations dream team in the media-driven world De Lesseps and D’Agostino regularly navigate.

Nonetheless, from the beginning of the pairing, LuAnn insisted that the relationship was authentic. She defended her choice in husband number two often and with great vigor—maintaining that the two were the love of one another's lives.

LuAnn often went to great lengths to defend her husband's behavior—conduct that fellow Housewives saw as troubling.

Two of LuAnn's co-stars stars, Ramona Singer and Sonja Morgan, regularly pointed-out that they both dated Tom D’Agostino and expressed concern about D’Agostino's true intentions. Concerns Ramona and Sonja raised from the moment they learned of LuAnn falling for Tom D’Agostino.

Additionally, a key storyline on the show early last year featured still another cast member, Bethenny Frankel, debating whether she ought to expose D'Agostino as a possible womanizer. Bethenny contemplated showing de Lesseps compromising photographs of D'Agostino with another woman.

LuAnn stood by her man

To everyone's surprise, LuAnn poo-pooed the photos and married D'Agostino last New Year's Eve in Palm Beach Florida.

The wedding ceremony received the media attention that a reality TV marriage typically attracts. It is hard to imagine that this divorce flabbergasted many of those close to the union. On the other hand, LuAnn expressed genuine heartache over the loss of her relationship with the man she says was the love of her life.
