Billie Lourd, the daughter of Carrie Fisher and granddaughter of Debbie Reynolds, is opening-up about life after Fisher and Reynolds' tragic deaths earlier this year. Billie said in an interview with "Town & Country" magazine that she felt as if she was living in their shadows. Now she explains she is living her own life and standing on her own. Even though she will always love being her mother's daughter, she clarified in the interview, "now I get to be just Billie." Nonetheless, she expressed the immense loss and the void their deaths left in her life.
Reynolds and Fisher offered Lourd acting advice
While Debbie Reynolds encouraged her granddaughter to create her unique act, her mother noticed Lourds' natural talent. In the interview, Lourd describes, her mother and grandmother's different approaches to show business. Reynolds told her to focus on developing a stage-act, complete with musical numbers and impersonations.
Fisher, on the other hand, recognized her daughter's natural comfort while performing in a bit, day player role, in 2015 with 'Star Wars: The Force Awakens.' A performance where Lourd received her first acting credit. She explains that while on the set her mother pointed-out that Lourd was comfortable in one of the most uncomfortable places.
Therefore, Fisher felt safe encouraging her daughter to pursue a career in the family business.
Reynolds had a different take. Instead of expressing outright heartfelt reassurance she warned her granddaughter about the downside of show-business. A snare that Reynolds knew too well.
From being treated as a commodity; to Reynolds' tabloid scandals involving her notorious triangulated divorce involving Eddie Fisher.
Eddie Fisher was a famous singer in the 1950's, he is Billie's grandfather, and Carrie's father; and is known for dumping his movie star wife, Debbie Reynolds for Reynolds' closest friend and fellow movie star Elizabeth Taylor. A scandal Carrie Fisher would later use as fodder for her satirical stage-show. A classic routine and one that includes many members of Lourd's family.
Lourd's future
Billie Lourd's future looks bright. With acting credits in major motion pictures such as "Star Wars: The Last Jedi." Where she plays Lieutenant Connix and shares the screen with her mother, Carrie Fisher. (Fisher's last screen appearance as Princess Leia). To a role in another film due out later this year the "Billionaire Boys Club." Plus, noteworthy acting credits in the popular TV series "American Horror Story" and "Scream Queens." It may be safe to expect that Billie Lourd will carry-on her mother and grandmother's beloved talented legacies.
Nothing could lessen the blow Fisher and Reynolds' tragic death left in the world of their many fans. Nonetheless, Billie Lourd offers fans another Reynolds Fisher and now Lourd legacy to treasure. We get to watch her carve out her unique talent as we watched her mother and grandmother before her. Debbie and Carrie would be proud.
