Starz dropped a new trailer of “Outlander” Season 3 accompanied with a mini-interview with the show’s lead stars Sam Heughan and Caitriona Balfe. Titled “Parallel Lives,” the two can be seen talking about the third chapter’s storyline.

Fans can be seen the on-screen couple suffering from their frustration, from their separation to their losses. The 37-year-old actor also revealed the reason behind his disturbing look that viewers saw in the promotional pictures.

The heartbreaking scenes

“When Jamie survives the battle of Culloden he has a great sense of loss because he was expecting to die," Sam Heughan said in the new trailer of “Outlander” Season 3.

Fans are about to see Jaimie Fraser battling post-traumatic stress disorder, guilt, and heartbreak. He is greatly affected by the death of his comrades in the battle while he survived. He is also gone to hiding. Thus he is seen dirty in the snaps and has a long, scruffy hair and beard.

However, he is not the only one who feels inconsolable in the show based on Diana Gabaldon’s “Voyager.” In spite of returning to his professional life as a doctor, Claire Fraser is also suffering from “losing the love of her life and important part of herself.” From here, she will start to build herself and her own life, facing the reality that she is now away from Jamie.

But aside from the two, Claire’s 20th-century husband, Frank (Tobias Menzies), is also lamenting from the consequences of war and time travel.

In fact, he can be seen telling Claire that he will always be with her, although she is still with Jamie even though they are apart.

Balfe teases Claire and Jamie’s reunion

Moreover, in an interview with Elle at Starz's TCA party in Los Angeles, Caitriona Balfe revealed that Claire and Jamie’s much-awaited reunion might look very real.

"I hope that what we've done is try and ground it as much in realism as we can,” she said. However, she also described that what they did in the filming is awkward, but it still sweet, funny, and endearing. She also believed that Claire and Jamie have both put each other on the pedestal for 20 years, so their reunion will be very emotional.

If the time comes that they are about to see each other again, they will throw out everything they thought they would do. They have been apart for a long time. Thus a quick catch-up will never be sufficed. Therefore, their “off-the-charts” chemistry will surely “win the day.” Balfe then teased that Jamie and Claire might not contain their emotions and things will turn out to be “pretty steamy.”
