The Season 6 finale teased that Jon Snow, the known bastard son of Eddard Stark, could actually be a Targaryen. Well, this could actually be true according to a source, who revealed a few spoilers for "Game of Thrones" Season 7. The insider shared some details about Jon's family background and revealed the real name of the new King of the North.

Jon Snow is a Targaryen

In Season 6 Bran Stark traveled to the past with the help of the Three-Eyed-Raven, where he saw his father with a woman who just gave birth. This woman was his aunt, Lyanna Stark.

At that time, it was believed that Rhaegar Targaryen kidnapped and hid her. Eddard managed to track her down and was meant to bring her back home. However, she died from childbirth. Fans speculate that Lyanna gave birth to Rhaegar’s son and that baby is Jon.

Fast forward to “Game of Thrones” Season 7, Bran is back in Winterfell and he is now the Three-Eyed-Raven. He too knows the real lineage of Jon Snow. According to spoilers from the Freefolk subreddit, it is in Episode 7 that Bran figures out who Jon’s real parents are. He finds out that he is a Targaryen and that his name is Aegon.

Sam Tarly also knows Jon’s parentage in 'Game of Thrones' Season 7

Aside from Bran Stark, Sam also knows that his former fellow member of the Night’s Watch is a Targaryen.

Gilly supposedly also learns about Rhaegar Targaryen’s marital status. It is unclear though if they learn these things about Jon Snow during their stay in Oldtown. Viewers may remember that they were the ones who found out and told the King of the North about the abundant Dragonglass in Dragonstone. Sam and Gilly read about it in one of the books in Oldtown.

Perhaps it is in this book that they also figured out Jon’s heritage.

Sam, Gilly, Baby Sam return to Winterfell

It is also likely that Sam learns that Jon is actually a Targaryen from Bran. According to the source, in Episode 5 he and Gilly, together with baby Sam leave Oldtown for Winterfell. Perhaps it is there that he figures out about his friend’s lineage.

However, there is no mention if Sam and Gilly ever reach Winterfell.

Rhaegar and Lyanna’s relationship

The past seasons led fans to believe that Rhaegar Targaryen had abducted Lyanna Stark. She was supposed to marry King Robert Baratheon. However, it turns out that Lyanna and Rhaegar were in love. The source revealed that there is a flashback to their wedding in an episode in "Game of Thrones “Season 7.
