"The Young and the Restless" spoilers and rumors report that veteran soap writer Kay Alden was fired and it was head writer Sally Sussman that pushed her out the door, according to a report from Highlight Hollywood. Alden has been back to "Y&R" less than a year. She rejoined the soap in September 2016 not long after Sally Sussman was hired as the head writer. Kay Alden is a soap writing legend who helped Bradley Bell make the CBS soap what it is.
Sussman intimidated by Alden?
Highlight Hollywood quotes a source at "The Young and the Restless" saying, "Sally has been intimidated by Kay since she brought her on board." The source went on to say that Alden was brought back to make long time "Y&R" watchers happy but Sally Sussman had other plans that didn't fit with Kay Alden's writing sensibilities. Given that Kay started on the soap back in 1973, she is an incredible resource on character history who cut her teeth working with head writer Bell, but now she's gone.
Alden gone from set already
The CBS source also says that Kay Alden was let go on Friday and that the cast and crew won't find out she was fired from "The Young and the Restless" until they come back to work on Monday.
The source said things behind the scenes at "Y&R" are in "disarray" and those in charge are "are not playing with a full deck." Highlight Hollywood reported that they reached out to the CBS soap for comment, but the show refused to confirm or deny the Alden firing news.
Sussman tries nepotism?
The other big "The Young and the Restless" spoilers shocker from this new announcement is with whom Sally Sussman wants to replace Kay Alden. Sussman reportedly asked the soap to hire her son Adam Morina, who is in his early 20s and cites himself as a writer on IMDB but with no projects listed to his credit. The same "Y&R" inside source added, "Now the nepotism game begins" as Sussman pushes the CBS soap to hire her kid to help her write.
Will CBS hire Sussman's son?
If there's any network that would consider Sussman's proposal, it's CBS. Both "The Young and the Restless" and "The Bold and the Beautiful" have been written by the Bell family working together and "Y&R" features William and Lee Bell's daughter Lauralee Bell in the key role of Christine Williams. William and Lee Bell made the CBS soaps what they are, so Sally Sussman might be able to convince the network that she and her son can do the same.
