“Rick and Morty” season 3 is days away from its return to Adult Swim and so far, very few details have been revealed about the installment. Aside from the release date, what we have are possible plot details and spoilers.
Release date
The animated series returns to screens on July 30, 2017 at 11:30 p.m. This announcement came along with the release of the first trailer for the new season.
What to expect
“Rick and Morty” Season 3 returns with Episode 2, “Rickmancing the Stone.” Adult Swim has yet to release the synopsis, but there are speculations the episode is based off on the movie “Romancing The Stone.” Fans may remember that Episode 1, “Rickshank Rickdemption,” took some inspiration from the classic film “Shawshank Redemption,” where it saw Rick bust himself out of the Galactic Federation prison.
It is believed that the second episode will be a play at the Michael Douglas-star adventure film.
Possible plot for “Rickmancing the Stone”
Episode 2 might see the titular characters on a jungle adventure as they go on a rescue mission to save Summer. This is what happens in “Romancing the Stone,” wherein Douglas’ mercenary character takes on a job from a novelist to rescue her sister. The episode might also feature a bit of romance as to what happens in the movie, when the novelist and the mercenary eventually fall in love.
Pickle Rick
Season 3 will see Rick turn himself into a pickle. The showrunners confirmed this during the San Diego Comic-Con and the trailer opened with a sneak peek at Pickle Rick.
The preview opens with Morty entering his grandfather’s garage/laboratory and sees that he has turned himself into a vegetable. Going into the trailer, we see the scientist engaged in a battle with rats.
Rick and Morty to butt heads
Expect to see conflict develop between the titular characters in Season 3, according to Den of Geek.
Episode 1 hinted at what could be tension developing between the titular characters. Fans may remember that the teenager almost killed his grandfather when he pulled the trigger on his head. Good thing Rick gave him a fake gun. Likewise, Beth and Jerry’s divorce might trigger Morty to go against his grandfather. He certainly did not look so happy to learn that his grandfather orchestrated his parents’ divorce.
Evil Morty comeback in “Rick and Morty” Season 3
There are speculations that Evil Morty returns and co-creator Justin Roiland seemed to fuel this in a previous tweet. He shared a concept art for the installment, which shows three Mortys and one bears a resemblance to the eye-patched Morty.
