Katy Perry, the "Wrecking Ball" singer, has been slated to host the upcoming 2017 MTV Video Music Awards. The announcement has been made official earlier this week, and it was also revealed that Perry would also perform on the show. Further, a report from Variety has confirmed that Perry has been the first performer to be announced for this year's awards ceremony.

She was also among the top nominated artists wherein she got five nominations for this year. Further, Bruce Gillmer, Head of music and talent, has also revealed that they are very much thrilled having Perry as a host and performer of the upcoming event.

Amid the official announcement from the 2017 VMAs, Variety has reported that Perry has been training her best for the upcoming event in August. Further, she also shared her excitement becoming as host for the awards ceremony. In one of her statements, Perry shared, "I'll be ready to be your MOONWOMAN. Brace for impact, kids!"

On the other hand, Gillmer has also believed that Perry has been the perfect person to host for the video music awards. She has been an icon of both music and culture and someone who has been looked up to by thousands of people.

Meanwhile, the head of music and talent has also promised that this year's video music awards is slated to be one of the most diversified events in the history.

Audiences are expected to enjoy the event with lots of diverse music.

MTV nominations

Apart from being the MTV host, it was also reported that the "Wrecking Ball" singer had been the most nominated personality for this year. She has been considered as one of the artists who has been highly-nominated for her craft in music.

Further, Perry is also slated to received awards like best pop, best direction, and best visual effects for her single, "Chained to the Rythm."

Further, she was also nominated as best art director for "Bon Apetit," and best collaboration for "Feels." Apparently, this is the first time for Perry to receive numbers of nominations at a time.

It was also reported that this would be the first time for the singer to host a certain awards ceremony.

To recall, previous year's MTV video music awards didn't have a traditional host. However, the event only featured Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele as event commentators.
