Chrissy Metz teases Kate’s story
From the beginning, it was obvious that Kate’s (chrissy metz) story would greatly focus on her weight and her struggles with it.
Some fans reportedly criticized this because it looks like the show is defining Kate’s personality solely based on her weight.
But, according to Chrissy Metz, there will be a lot more focus on the different aspect of Kate’s life for the second season of “This is Us.” The actress also believes that her character’s weight has been portrayed very well, and is a major factor because of this.
"The weight and the weight storyline will be secondary, but it's so important,” she told Bustle.
The 36-year-old actress went on to say that there is a bigger purpose as to why Kate’s weight is often shown at the forefront, adding that her character’s struggle fits into a bigger storyline and that her weight does not define her as a whole.
She hopes that viewers will get to understand why her weight has been shown as an important part of her character’s storyline.
Metz also teased that on the new season, viewers will get to see Kate follow her “mother’s footsteps by pursuing a singing career.” Metz also added that she is hoping to have a singing scene with her “This is Us” co-star and on-screen mother, Mandy Moore.
At the end of the first season, it was evident that Kate was finally becoming happy with what and who she is, finally pursuing what her heart truly desires. But Metz also added that Kate has to face many issues like her tense relationship with her mother, Rebecca (Mandy Moore) and blaming herself for her father’s (Milo Ventimiglia) death.
Where does season 2 picks up?
“This is Us” creator, Dan Fogelman said that the second season will pick up the next morning after Jack walked out on Rebecca. He also added that Kate’s guilt over Jack’s death will be explained in the course of “This is Us” season 2.
