Tobias Menzies, who portrayed the roles of Black Jack Randall and Claire’s husband, Frank has now bid goodbye to “Outlander.” Unfortunately, Frank never had a chance to start over as he was killed in a car accident following his fight with wife, Claire (Caitriona Balfe).
The 43-year-old English actor revealed he’s grateful for the opportunity but doesn’t exactly feel emotional about losing his character. Menzies said that it’s odd because his characters are like bits of him, so they do not exactly go anywhere. He also admitted that he would miss playing both Black Jack Randall and Frank.
“It’s been an amazing ride and I will also miss all the great friends that I have made on it,” Menzies shared.
Unexpected challenge
Meanwhile, Tobias Menzies’ on-screen wife, Caitriona Balfe commented about her estranged husband on his exit on the Starz series.
Diana Gabaldon’s “Outlander” novels’ fans may have been expecting Frank’s death, but that did not mean that the TV audience was prepared for the heartbreaking final scenes of Tobias Menzies.
Menzies may have bowed out from “Outlander” in a heartbreaking scene, but leading lady Balfe said that the last scene she shot with Menzies was not heartbreaking at all; instead, it was quite a lot of fun, and the filming was unexpected for her.
Balfe shared to RadioTimes.com that that last scene where they are on separate beds scene at the end of “Outlander” season 3 episode 2, she found it “actually unintentionally hilarious.”
Despite that feeling, Balfe shared that she will miss her dear friend, Menzies who officially left the “Outlander” after three seasons.
She went on saying that she, Sam Heughan and Tobias Menzies were the three lifers for the past seasons of the series.
Will Tobias Menzies return?
During her interview with RadioTimes.com, Balfe was asked if she felt like seeing Menzies return to the series in the future considering that the show has a time-travel related genre.
Balfe said that she’s hopeful, but she cannot assure if there are any plans to bring him back. She added that everyone says “he’s in later books.” She also added that with the time travel, it might be possible as he could come back in flashbacks, but she still cannot guarantee it.
Murtagh FitzGibbons Fraser still alive
In other news, the showrunner of “Outlander” recently revealed why he kept Jamie’s godfather and right-hand-man despite the fact that she was killed at the Battle of Culloden in the books.
Ronald Moore shared that there was a very good reason why the beloved character is still alive, citing that Murtagh’s character development in the show was different from the novels from the start.
Fans will get to know more Murtagh’s importance on the next “Outlander” season 3 episodes. The Starz series airs every Sunday at 8 p.m.
