The premiere of Season 7 of the popularGame of Thrones series is only days away. Like what Cersei Lannister said, “when you play the game of thrones, you win, or you die.” Let’s remember some beloved (some not) characters who died in Season 6.

The saddest death

Although Game of Thrones is known for killing characters, even its principal characters like Ned and Robb Stark, nothing will compare with the sadness when Hodor died.

As a result of Bran’s reckless warging, the White Walkers were able to get to the cave and attacked them. It also resulted to young Wylis experiencing his future death.

Wylis suffered a seizure, and he kept repeating “Hold the door” and eventually slurring the phrase to “Hodor.”

Bran and Meera needed to escape; Leaf has sacrificed herself to give them enough time and so did Summer, Bran’s dire wolf. Hodor held the door to stop the White Walkers from following Bran and Meera.

The most annoying death

If only he ran in a zig-zag, he might still be alive.

Rickon Stark was given to Ramsay Bolton by Smalljon Umber to form an alliance against Jon Snow. Along with Rickon were Osha and his dead dire wolf, Shaggydog’s head. He was held captive by Ramsay and informed Jon and Sansa about it, which pushed Jon to join Sansa in retaking Winterfell.

In the battle, Ramsay taunts Rickon on how fast he can run towards Jon. When Rickon gets far enough, Ramsay started aiming arrows at him. When Rickon was about to reach Jon, a heart pierces through him, and the battle begins. After the Starks had won, Jon ordered for Rickon to be buried in the crypts next to their father.

The most satisfying death

“Your words will disappear. Your house will disappear. Your name will disappear. All memory of you will disappear.”

When Jon’s army breaches Winterfell with the help of Wun Wun, Ramsay Bolton accepts Jon’s offer, to fight one on one, from the day before the battle. Ramsay picks up his bow and arrow and fires three arrows at Jon, all he blocked with a Mormont shield.

Jon smacks Ramsay to the ground and beats him to a pulp, only stopping when he notices Sansa.

Sansa went to the dungeons where Ramsay is tied to a chair. Ramsay tries to break Sansa’s composure by telling her that he is now a part of her. Sansa stayed calm telling him that everything about him will be forgotten. Ramsay, confident that his hounds will obey him, is reminded by Sansa that he said so himself, he hasn’t fed the hounds for seven days. The hounds devoured Ramsay while Sansa watched.

The most explosive deaths

On the day of the trial, everyone was gathered at the Sept of Baelor. Unbeknownst to the people in Sept, there was a large cache of wildfire beneath the Sept from the reign of Aerys II.

With Maester Qyburn and his little birds’ help, they destroyed the Sept of Baelor using wildfire and killing the King’s Small Council, the High Sparrow, and the Faith Militant.

Included in the deaths are Kevan and Lancel Lannister and Mace, Loras and Margaery Tyrell, which resulted to the brink of collapse of House Lannister and the near extinction of House Tyrell, leaving an enraged and devastated Olenna.

All these destruction and deaths happened while Cersei was watching from afar, sipping wine. King Tommen also saw the catastrophe and committed suicide by jumping off the window, making House Baratheon officially extinct.

With the death of the Small Council and House Baratheon, the crown is passed down to Cersei, making her Queen Cersei of the House Lannister, the First of Her Name, Queen of the Andals and the First Men and Protector of the Seven Kingdoms.

This also brings the prophecy of Maggy, the Witch into reality.

To recap the other deaths of season 6: Doran and Trystane Martell (killed by Ellaria and the Sand Snakes), Roose, Walda and the new baby Bolton (by Ramsay), Balon Greyjoy (by Euron Greyjoy), Khal Moro and the other Khals (by Daenerys), Osha (by Ramsay), Brother Ray (by Lem Lemoncloak), Lem Lmeoncloak (hanged by the Hound), Lady Crane (by the Waif), The Waif (by Arya), Brynden Tully, Wun Wun (by Ramsay) and Walder Frey (by Arya).

So many deaths in one season of “Game of Thrones.” A whole new season is coming in a few days, and it includes three big battles, which characters will survive Season 7?

“Game of Thrones” Season 7 premieres on July 16 on HBO.
