Films featuring Emma Stone, Jennifer Lawrence, and Idris Elba are heading to this year’s Toronto International Film Festival. Organizers revealed the lineup for the 42nd annual festival’s Gala and Special Presentation on Tuesday, July 25.

There are rumors that science fiction film “Blade Runner 2049” will bow in Toronto, possibly as a kick-off for the fest. But we know that the movie is slated to be released on October 6, so it may not be possible for director Denis Villeneuve to reveal the details at the event.

Which films will debut at the fest?

Some of the most remarkable movies that may debut at the Toronto Film Festival are:

  • ‘Downsizing’ – Kristen Wiig, Laura Dern, and Matt Damon play the leading characters in this science fiction film. It is the story of a young man who shrinks himself for a better lifestyle.
  • ‘Suburbicon’ – Directed by George Clooney, “Suburbicon” features Matt Damon and Julianne Moore in the leading roles. Joe and Ethan Coen have written this comedy film, and it is set to premiere at the fest.
  • ‘Battle of the Sexes’ – Emma Stone and Steve Carell’s new film “Battle of the Sexes” will be shown at the festival. Directed by Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Faris, it is a replay of the 1973 tennis tussle between Bobby Riggs and Billie Jean King.
  • ‘Darkest Hour’ – Gary Oldman and Kristin Scott Thomas are forefronts with their new film, directed by Joe Wright.
  • ‘Call Me by Your Name’ – This romantic comedy is on tap for TIFF 2017. The film stars Timothee Chalamet and Armie Hammer in the leading roles.
  • ‘Stronger’ – Jake Gyllenhaal portrays a survivor of the 2013 Boston bombing in “Stronger.”
  • ‘Victoria and Abdul’ – ‘Philomena’ actress Judi Dench is returning to play Queen Victoria, a character that won her dozens of awards for “Mrs. Brown.”
  • ‘The Shape of Water’ – It seems that “The Shape of Water” will make us forget about “Wonder Woman” because Sally Hawkins is playing the role of a princess, who falls in love with a merman during the Cold War.

TIFF will also see Idris Elba’s adventure “The Mountain Between Us,” Jennifer Lawrence’s “Mother,” and Alexander Payne’s action-adventure “Downsizing.” Some of these films have already been screened at the Cannes Film Festival.

Canadian movies are also forefronts

At least two Canadian films are set to debut at the Toronto Film Festival: “Long Time Running” by Nicholas de Pencier and Jennifer Baichwal, and “The Breadwinner” by Nora Twomey. While the announced titles include a large number of high-profile films, they will likely make up less than twenty percent of the total festival programming.
