The world was surprised to learn the death of Linkin Park’s lead singer Chester Bennington on Thursday. The singer-songwriter committed suicide by hanging.
Fans' reaction to his death has been divided. Some said that it was a cowardly thing to do, while others revealed that they understood him. Also, it looks as though he was still looking out for the welfare of his family, as he purchased a million dollar home for them. While it was speculated early on that drugs may have been a factor, that does not appear to be the case.
No evidence of drugs
According to TMZ, Chester Bennington didn’t seem to have used drugs before he decided to take his own life.
The investigators haven’t found any kind of drugs, neither illegal nor prescribed, at the Linkin Park lead singer’s home in Palos Verdes Estates. However, they found a half-empty bottle of liquor inside his bedroom where his lifeless body was found.
Police officials revealed that the Stone Temple Pilot’s frontman from 2013 to 2015 hanged himself using the door in his bedroom. He was home alone that time. Incidentally, his suicide happened on the 53rd birthday of his fellow musician and personal friend Chris Cornell, who also killed himself by hanging in May. The inspectors are still waiting for the toxicology reports to confirm if he had taken any kind of substance before he committed suicide.
The 911 call
A 911 call reporting Chester Bennington’s death was revealed on Monday. A hired driver called the emergency hotline as he saw the singer’s housekeeper was distraught about seeing her superior’s dead body.
In the audio released by the Palos Verdes Estates’ police, the driver told the operators that he was about to pick up the former lead singer of "Dead by Sunrise" for a photo shoot.
But, he was surprised to see his housekeeper telling him that she saw the singer’s dead body hanging inside his bedroom. In fact, she could be heard wailing and screaming in the background while the call was ongoing.
Securing his family
Chester Bennington was married to Talinda Ann Bentley, with whom he had three children. He also had another three children with his former wife of nine years Samantha Marie Olit.
Although some were upset to hear he took his own life and left his family, he made sure that they were all secure after he was gone.
Another report by TMZ revealed that the Linkin Park frontman bought a new house in Los Angeles before he committed suicide. In another report by Daily Breeze, he and his family already moved into a two-storey house seven weeks ago.
Aside from his family, his fans, band mates, and fellow musicians are all left heartbroken because of his passing. In fact, his group sets up a suicide-prevention website using their own homepage in tribute to Chester Bennington and to help other people who need help about depression.
