rachel lindsay probably already knows some of her suitors on “The Bachelorette” are looking for Reality TV fame and not love. One of the most obvious examples is Lucas Yancey. The loud-mouthed suitor showed up at the premiere of the ABC reality show wearing a brightly colored suit jacket with a megaphone in his mouth and a t-shirt that said “Whaboom” on it. Lucas wasted no time in letting Rachel know that "Whaboom” is his catchphrase as he shook his head in a crazy manner and shouted out the obnoxious mating call.
On her ‘Bachelorette’ blog for People magazine, Rachel revealed that while Lucas’ megaphone shtick had her in stitches, she “was concerned he may have concussed himself with the head rattling ‘Whaaaaboom!’”
Rachel also told People that Lucas stood out during the limo meet and greets on the show’s first night.
"He was carrying a megaphone, so his voice was booming around the mansion all night,” she told People. “He definitely has a lot of spunk and personality. He's different in every way!"
Lucas has a reality TV past
According to gossip website PerezHilton.com, Lucas Yancey already had an IMDB profile before he signed on to “The Bachelorette.” And if that’s not a big red flag, perhaps the types of shows he previously appeared on would be.
In 2016, Lucas Yancey appeared on the WeTV dating show “Ex Isle.” But four years before that, he was on the cast of a Spanish-language dating show, Telemundo series called “12 Corazones Especial de Circo Entretenimiento.”
In a non-so-coincidental twist, Lucas appeared on “Ex Isle” with fellow “Bachelorette” contestant Blake Elarbee. The two men reportedly had a “feud” over Lucas’ ex-girlfriend, Brittney, on the WETV show, which pretty much explains their frosty exchange on the season premiere of “The Bachelorette.”
Fame is his game
As Perez points out, Lucas also seems to have a “whaboom” brand. “The Bachelorette” contestant peddles t-shirt with his signature phrase on them.
Of course, with 31 contestants on Rachel Lindsay’s season of “The Bachelorette”—the most ever on the ABC reality franchise—there were bound to be some guys who weren’t looking to marry the gorgeous Dallas attorney.
But “Whaboom’s” past makes it pretty clear that if ever there were a guy who’s not on the show for the right reasons, it’s him.
You can see Rachel Lindsay and Lucas Yancey on the next episode of “The Bachelorette,” airing Monday, May 29 at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.
