Ever since Donald Trump announced that he would be running for president, he has received heavy backlash from critics on the left. After three months in the White House, that criticism has only increased, especially from comedian Bill Maher.

Maher on Trump

It was just two years that Donald Trump held a press conference on the floor of Trump Tower in New York City and announced his offical campaign for president.

After the initial chuckles and eye-rolls, it became apparent that the former host of "The Apprentice" was serious about his candidacy, and quickly shot-up in the polls. As the debates came and went, and the polls produced surprising results, Trump was declared the Republican nominee last summer. By the time Election Day rolled around, Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton still appeared as if she would be the odds on favorite, until Trump pulled off the most shocking political upset in recent history, which even came as a surprise to him. During this whole time, Trump was often the butt of a joke for comedians, which ranged from skits on "Saturday Night Live," to monologues on late-night comedy talk shows.

However, one of the most consistently vocal opponents of the president has been Bill Maher, who sat down for an interview with ATTN on April 19 to give his thoughts on the current events of the day.

While sitting down with Matthew Segal, the Editor-in-Chief of ATTN, Bill Maher gave clear and stunning advice to the Democratic Party over how to handle Donald Trump and Republicans moving forward. "What did Michelle Obama say?" Maher asked, in reference to the former First Lady's famous "when they go low, we go high" remark during the Democratic National Convention. "Yeah, f**k that," the comedian said, before advising democrats, "When they go low, you go lower."

Bill Maher went on to explain that the Democratic Party "needs some bastards" to go low with how Donald Trump and the GOP play politics.

Maher name-dropped the notoriously tough former President Lyndon Johnson as an example, stating that liberals need someone who will say "I’m gonna out-f**k you on f**king us."

Maher's take

Not stopping there, Bill Maher went on to grade Donald Trump over his almost 100 days in office, saying he would give him an "F." Maher then called out the billionaire real estate mogul for his cabinet and administrative picks, as well as being an alleged hypocrite for many of his policy proposals. Maher did admit that there was one good thing about Trump being elected, as it has helped his ratings increase on his HBO show "Real Time with Bill Maher." "There's no doubt he's been good for business," Maher said, before mockingly stating, "he's making me richer!"
