It's no secret that Donald Trump is not well-liked by the majority of the Celebrities in Hollywood. For veteran actor Robert De Niro, he's taken his opposition to a new level by calling out the president at the 2018 Tony Awards.

De Niro on Trump

Not long after Donald Trump announced his plan to run for president back in the summer of 2015, he quickly came under fire after making a variety of controversial remarks.

In response, Hollywood celebrities wasted no time hitting back at the former host of "The Apprentice," labeling Trump as a "bigot," "racist," and even a "white nationalist." Trump's reaction to Hollywood's backlash has been expected, taking shots at some of his critics during his Twitter rants, while going as far as calling others out during speeches and interview. One of the president's most vocal critics on Hollywood has been Robert De Niro, who appeared at the 2018 Tony Awards on Sunday night.

During the June 11 event, Robert De Niro took to the podium at the Tony Awards and shocked viewers with his explicit rant against Donald Trump. "I'm going to say this, F**k TRUMP," De Niro said. "It's no longer 'Down with Trump,' it's f**k Trump," he went on to add.

Those in attendance looked amazed and reacted with laughter and a standing ovation. This isn't the first time that De Niro has made his opposition to Trump public, as he's been vocal in interviews and even appeared in multiple "Saturday Night Live" skits in recent months.

Twitter reacts

In response to Robert De Niro's remarks about Donald Trump, the award-winning actor was met with viral praise across social media.

"Two little words that perfectly describe the sentiment of nearly every person alive on the planet today. Robert De Niro received a standing ovation for bolding saying them at the Tony Awards in front of a worldwide audience," one Twitter user wrote.

"I'm not a proponent of cursing to make political points, but seriously, how odd are the priorities of people flipping over Robert De Niro's F-bombs but unbothered by children being ripped away from mothers and caged?" Peter Daou added.

"Robert De Niro should be considered for an honorary Canadian citizenship," Josh Matlow wrote. "How to get a STANDING OVATION at The Tonys? Give the people what they want...always a crowd pleaser!!!" actor Mark Hamill tweeted.

"I love you, Robert De Niro!!" a social media user wrote. "We'd actually be able to get something done if conservatives got as upset about school shootings as they do about Robert De Niro saying the word "f**k," a follow-up tweet went on to read.
