“The Vampire Diaries” Season 8 finale has been a tremendous success, featuring an epic ending along with the appearance of veteran characters. However, the television series’ showrunner Julie Plec revealed that there was something that she hasn’t managed to add to the story.
With the arrival of Lucy Bennett, Liz Forbes, and the Gilbert family, the television producer has not had the chance to justify the letter Caroline (Candice King) burned.
Although they tried to continue that specific scene’s narrative, she has no idea what Sheriff Forbes wrote in that letter.
The burned letter
To recall, Liz wrote a letter to her daughter before she died in “The Vampire Diaries” Season 6. However, Caroline lit it up the moment her humanity was turned off, though she regretted it instantly. Julie Plec explained that they tried to pitch a story as a way to continue that particular scene, but they simply could not figure it out. She then said that if “The Vampire Diaries” Season 8’s finale was a little different, where everything ended in peace, things would have been different.
Finale lacked decade dance
Also, fans missed the final decade dance in the show's finale. “I really wish we could’ve done another decade dance in this final season because it felt like it was the right time to bring that back around,” Julie Plec said. Although it was set to have a decade dance, they just couldn’t make it work. The show’s co-creator admitted that she felt sorry for not featuring the said dance as she promised that fans would see a lot of that event.
A peaceful ending
Meanwhile, the finale of the series stayed true to its theme. It featured death, loss, and love. It also added the idea of peace that completed the show’s ending. Ultimately, fans got to see Stefan (Paul Wesley) sacrifice himself to save everyone. Damon (Ian Somerhalder) and Elena (Nina Dobrev) were seen living together as humans, but they would eventually reunite with their families.
All in all, it was a fitting end to a wonderful series.
